2004 T30 ATF Change - Is Nissan NS-2 CVT Fluid compatible with MATIC J?

Greetings,

My T30 has around 145000 kms and would like to change the ATF. On the dipstick, it says only to use Nissan MATIC J fluid. I went to my local nissan dealership to order it and they gave me Nissan NS-2 CVT Fluid. Is this fluid compatible with the required MATIC J indicated on the dip stick? Also, how much fluid will I need to put it after draining the old fluid?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds as though they may have confused models, I'd ring the dealer and check as the T30 is not a CVT box.

I used Castrol ATF DEX III in mine as per Castrol oil finder (http://www.castrol.com/en_nz/new-zealand.html ). Did it at 100,000 km and it has been fine all the way to 230,000 km and counting.

If they gave you NS-2 CVT fluid for ATF pricing, I'll pay you what they charged you, plus postage, and buy you a drink too. I need 7L of the stuff for the Jatco CVT7 gearbox in my g/f's Swift and I'm looking at nearly $200 'trade'!

But NO! Do NOT put (Green?) CVT fluid in a standard auto.

Your T30 auto should take just standard DexIII auto fluid. Nulon, Castrol, anything will do, unlike the CVT gearboxes which DO need specific fluid (Suzuki 'CVT Green', Nissan NS-2, etc).

Thank you so much for the responses. You saved me a lot of headaches in the future.
I should be able to get Castrol Transmax Dex III easily.

Wiz ... I have 2 x 4L (i.e. 8L) of NS-2 fluid. I paid 820 South African rands in total at Nissan which is about 80 Australian dollars. So, yes, give me the address. I'd like a drink emoticon

I missed the SouthAfrican part in your sig block...it's "Dangerous Goods", road freight only. Would cost both yours and my houses to ship to Australia! emoticon

But you should be able to get rid of it easily well above the price you paid for it.
Anything with a Jatco CVT7/JF015E, and there's 10 million of them out there now.
Scroll to the bottom of the page I link to above, the main models with a CVT7 are listed at the bottom of the page.
