Pinging when cold 04 T30

My new to me 140k km TI had the following done just recently.
Oil change all round,
02 sensor in manifold welded. Was a slight gap.
Whole exhaust checked for leaks, all good.

When cold it sounds louder, when taking off, more so than usual. It`s like its got a hole in the manifold. I actually took it back to the guy that welded it thinking it must be still leaking.
But it is all good.

Today I also installed a new K&N air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor.

Are the 2.5 petrol motors a bit 'Chuffy' when cold and under acceleration ?
It even pinged a bit this morning.

Next time I fuel up I will try 95.

Cheers.
