posticon Headlights on with unlock?

Hi guys,

On my old SV6, when I hit the unlock button on my car keys, the headlights used to come on for something like 30 seconds. I never realised how handy that little feature was till I got rid of it!

Anyways my question is, is it possible to modify something in the eXy to get this feature or is it just wishful thinking?

Re: Headlights on with unlock?

With enough geek factor just about anything is possible I guess.

In time (I've had the car a month, I've not had a chance to run cabling other than a DAB antenna and microphone to a new headunit), I'm hoping to hook up an arduino to the simple systems in the car.

Essentially to run a private bus to run AUX lighting, power, any additional projects etc. Few passive inputs to sense the state of the car, headlights off/hi/lo, brakes, indicators, these can then be used in conjunction with inputs to turn on aux lighting, fogs, spots, aux reversing, aux power, status via rgb leds above momentary switches.

It would be possible to detect that the car has been unlocked and selectively activate the aux lighting for a period of time (if the car is off and the indicators double flash twice in 10 seconds turn the aux lighting on for 30seconds....to trigger you tap the unlock button twice.

But with less geek factor, I'd say it would be a challenge to get the factory system to do this, my 09 T31 Petrol will turn the lights back on if they are left on when the car was locked, but I think you have to open the door or stick the key in the ignition or something to that effect before it will turn em on.

Some interesting ideas, that'd be great, but I'd imagine very tough too!

Re:

I think like most things automotive (for me anyway) the hardest bit is trying to find the best place to tap into the car wiring.

To implement it in a bare car you'd need to tap into

Ground - For Ground
Constant 12V - For Power (Shame cars don't have a 5V Rail)
An Indicator - To sense when their flashing
ACC - To sense when the car is not in use/parked

Then the "a black box" could output a 12V source that could be connected trough a relay to your lighting

(headlight, driving lights, fog lights etc depending on whats already installed and or enabled at the time, second relay may be needed to have a second trigger of your driving lights if they are wired conventionally (ie require high beams to operate).

Shame there is not a standard plug under the dash for a trailer hitch/wiring emoticon
