power lock not working with replacement actuator

Oem door lock on passenger front stopped working. I had two new actuators installed (first one was replaced under warranty without a problem) and the door mechanism lubed and cleaned.
Oddly, both new actuators started malfunctioning on an INTERMITTENT basis after 2 weeks of service. No rhyme nor reason over when they stop and start working.
Actuators are supplied by rockauto.com and are DORMAN 759224
Any experience or thoughts on next course of action?

thanks

Re: power lock not working with replacement actuator

As it is affecting both actuators, could it be the actual remote that is malfunctioning. The batteries may need replacing.

Cheers

Had this same issue today.
Replaced the battery in the remote, and bingo...no worries, mate.

Re: power lock not working with replacement actuator

hmmmm....so the remote communicates with 5 lock actuators individually???
And with weak power only one actuator does not activate????

I will try this, but since the problem is intermittent it is hard to make the unit fail. But it will, and then I will try my other remote to see if it then activates.

But I have my doubts....thanks for the tips.

Anybody else?

Re: power lock not working with replacement actuator

Again, thanks for the ideas. I keep trying the lock and it is not failing, but it will....and if not, great!

However, I remembered that when it failed at first, I did try to unlock with the key in the door and that did not work. So I doubt it is just the remote not working one out of five actuators.

That may be a key fact (no pun intended) for troubleshooting what exactly is failing.

Re: power lock not working with replacement actuator

Hi Willy,

Now that you say it did not unlock using the key in the door it is similar to a problem I had with mine.
Found it was the actual lock being dry and sticking.
Sprayed some WD40 into the lock, working the key to get it to unlock initially and get the door open and then sprayed some more around the lock striker and mechanism itself to free it up.
If you can take the door panel off and spray all the operating parts it will be even better.

Re: power lock not working with replacement actuator

When in Mexico in December I had a bodyman take the door off and lube everything. I watched him.
He then said, it was the actuator and I got one and replaced it.
Since the replacement, that door has not unlocked 3 times (over 2 months). Each time the key has unlocked it. I keep forgetting to try the OTHER remote to see if my remote is the issue.

But will keep you posted....
