new aircon compressor at 33,000kms

Hi, I have read up on some of the older posts re problems with xtrail aircon clutch/compressor. Our x-trail CVT ST 2012 (not on road until March 2013 and we purchased (as new) in May 2013 (had been a loan car/demo model), has only done 33,000kms to date (April2016). The aircon stopped working (not blowing cool air).
We have a dealer extended warranty until 2019.

We have a friend who has run a car aircon business for many years and he tested for us and said the clutch would need replacing but that Nissan would probably replace the compressor, not just the clutch.

Nissan dealer gave me options of new genuine (part cost $1130) or non-genuine or secondhand compressor, they will not just replace the clutch. Secondhand cost for the part, labour and regas comes in under our $1,000 maximum extended (dealer) warranty so we chose secondhand.

But should I be contacting Nissan Australia to voice my concern that this has happened on such low mileage and apparently is a known fault. What would I gain? Perhaps an offer to replace (at no cost to us) a genuine compressor?

Excuse my lack of mechanical terminology. It is husband who is the retired (old school) qualified mechanic and steam is coming out of his ears (re people being trained these days to bolt off/bolt on rather than back to basics, hence more costly car repairs). Restricted mobility now prevents him carrying out repairs.

I am thinking of getting rid of the x-trail but realise I would not sell for much and the $$ gap would be substantial to replace with a recent model (any manufacturer) secondhand car. We are not used to paying much for cars, having only had one other new car (others have been secondhand and a rebuild by hubby).

I find the x-trail more difficult to park than our Nissan Pathfinder (bought secondhand) but then I am below average height. A service guy did admit that he has heard this comment previously (perhaps only our model?)

Many thanks and thanks to Jalasaki for assistance.

As this car is only just 3 years old, would it not still be covered by manufacturers warranty?

You have a dealer extended warranty until 2019 so why the cost quotes from them ?
Voice your opinions on the dealer that this be fully replaced at their expense under the extended warranty agreement.

Re: new aircon compressor at 33,000kms

Thankyou. It is being replaced but only by a secondhand compressor, not a genuine/new compressor because extended warranty from the dealer only covers to a maximum of $1,000 per repair.

My query was should I persist and contact Nissan Australia (not the local dealer) to ask can a genuine/new compressor be installed at no expense to us (a genuine compressor costs more than the $1,000 dealer allowance plus labour costs).

However, as we are not paying any dollars, maybe I should just accept a secondhand compressor and hope it will be okay in the long term.

(Cost quotes were provided by the dealer in case we chose to select a genuine part and pay labour, which would total more than $1,000.

My Two cents worth...
Personally I would go to Nissan Australia and log my call and get a reference number for the complaint for future reference to extended warranty.
If from your first post the new part fitted was an extra $130 then I would pay the extra $'s and have the manufactures warranty on the new compressor vs none for second hand.
