Re:

Ecstrail, I had the HiTech exhaust done on mine at 2600km on the clock.

The HiTech exhaust allows the engine to run more freely and is an improvement over the factory exhaust, so Nissan can't claim it's detrimental, because it's not.

Nissan will not give you anything in writing because they didn't develop the exhaust. Every dealer that has had my Exy on a hoist has commented positively about it and asked how much better the fuel economy is.

Given you are making an improvement over the restrictive factory set up, it's only going to improve economy if you drive it normally.

Hey Ian,

By cruising I meant driving at any constant speed then add soon as I put a bit of pressure on the gas it drones. It isn't related to the 20k service as it happened before and after it. I realised it can happen when I drive hard through the gears as well. Very odd.

Yes, mine does it all the time under very slight load. It's nothing to worry about. It's just a sound resonance thing that occurs with the straight through rear muffler at a very specific load. I can make it happen at any time.

It's barely detectable and you really need to be concentrating to hear it.

The most noticeable time to hear it is if you are at the rear of the vehicle when it turns off.

"A sound resonance thing"

Harmonics probably vary a bit from car to car.

It's unfortunate if the resonance makes other things vibrate to soil the sound.

At a guess, fiddling with the exhaust brackets might change the wave form ?

Re:

Its a VERY MILD drone nose that occurs at a specific load and throttle position momentarily.

You don't notice it unless you put the window down and listen carefully for it.

It's not worth worrying about.

My Exy is manual petrol but no-one has brought this up the other thread.

My recently fitted Hi-Tech exhaust also does this. I hear it when the Exy is travelling under load only, but it is easily detectable for me.

Two examples are when accelerating to overtake people on the highway or whilst cruise control is trying to go up hills on the highway. It's more noticeable of course while towing too.

I haven't been too concerned about it as I believed it was just a new feature the XTrail would need to adopt in order to utilise the Hi-Techs full potential. Can't say I've noted any fuel changes just yet, though I haven't done any consistent road trips to compare it to my past readings.

Cheers.

Hi,
I would like to upgrade my 2011 TL X-Trail.
Is this option still available?

Re: Hi-Tech Cat. Back System (T31 Manual Diesel)

Hi,

I'm considering getting a single system and have confirmed with Hi-tech that they are still available. Prior to doing this though I do have concerns about the potential for poorer fuel economy. I don't expect to see major improvements to economy, but on the contrary I also can't afford to have my fuel economy going south especially with some outback trips I am planning.

I've read through this thread and there are only a few comments, with examples, regarding fuel economy. I'd appreciate positive or negative feedback from anyone, that has had this system installed, re their fuel economy, especially if you have done enough k's to be able to provide comparisons to before and after installation!

Thanks

Allan

Hi Allan,
If the single diesel system sounds anything like the dual petrel exhaust then you fuel economy will be sightly worse as you drive your car harder as the exhaust sound so good. emoticon

Re:

My fuel economy with the exhaust done is better than several others I know with standard exhaust. I also know a guy with a Chip My Diesel Chip in his Exy Diesel Manual getting 6.1 lt per 100km on a trip.

The Chip My Diesel unit is the only one on the market that doesn't increase fuel rail pressure and costs about $700.
