Engine removal, ecu location

Hi Guys,

I have a 2002 Xtrail, motor and clutch are both badly worn! Motor has 170,000 klms. Its burning oil like a oil heater! So its either a rebuild or replace it with a sec hand motor.

Anyway halfway through removing the engine. I am trying to locate the ecu and unplug it and bring the wiring loom through the firewall back into the engine bay. I am dropping the motor and gearbox with the k-frame and lifting the body up.

Anyway questions are:

Where is the ECU located?

Also what is the easiest way to remove the power steering pump?

cheers

Goran

Hi Goran,

The ECU is located behind the passenger's glovebox inside the cabin.

Best thing for you to do is make sure you have full membership to the forum and download a copy of the Electronic Service Manual. Invaluable if you are thinking of working on your Xtrail yourself.

Re: Engine removal, ecu location

Pulled motor out and apart, Its stuffed! Thrust washers have fallen out and bounced around and damaged the block, piston skirt, and crank. Also aluminum filings are spread through out the motor! So there this motor is scrap metal.

Anyway after another motor, looked on ebay and there priced from $1300 to $2000 all with only 3months warranty.

Anyone know where I can get a good condition motor with more than 3 months warranty? Im located in VIC.

cheers Goran
