Is this towbar suitable for recovery purposes

Please could I ask one of the experienced amongst whether this bar is suitable for recovery purposes?

I've read much on this forum about rear chassis cracking (when towing) and pin type brackets are better for recovery, but I haven't found a pin type tow hitch type here in the UK, so I am asking how suitable this type may be?

Thank you for your time

Re: Is this towbar suitable for recovery purposes

We can't tell just by looking at a picture Martyn.
Do you know how it mounts or what it's rated at for towing ?
The standard Nissan towbar is rated 2000kg and is fine for recovery.
The rear chassis cracking is when towing loads close to the limit and is caused by the way the towbar bolts around the evaporative canister on the left side.
The Hayman-Reese towbar for our Xtrails seems to be a different mount, directly INTO the chassis rails and does not suffer the same problems.

Re:

Hi Martyn,

I believe in the UK there is only one type of towbar available and it's the one you found. It's the goose-neck type and it is not suitable for any serious recoveries. I also believe that it is rated at much less than the one sold by Nissan in Australia which has the pin hitch type which can be used for recoveries.

Re:

Thank you both very much.
Kev I don't, just what I can see in the pic. I can ask the seller questions I'm sure.
Thank you Jalalski.

I am sure you can see what I'm trying to do, I have got the front end sorted using high tensile bolts in the two recovery points, I have now got a 4m bridle and 20m recovery strap, all rated and with rated D shackles. Now sods law will dictate I need to be recovered from the rear! the rear tie down has been discussed enough. So I need to install the 'best' recovery option for the rear. If I cannot get the Pin type tow bar here in the UK, Is the next best option a genuine Nissan bar? What would be the next option in your experienced opinion.

Something is better than the tie down point, so I am trying to get it right first time, BEFORE I need to call upon it to be recovered!!

Thank you VERY much for your time.
Martyn

Re:

The Genuine Nissan UK one is also the gooseneck type I believe. It's only Nissan Australia that sells them as pin hitch type because they're being manufactured locally here in Australia.
