The owners manual does not mention the radio codes. It is in a separate booklet called Audio Systems Owners Manual Supplement.
Nissan give the radio code away for free. Just ring on their service number 1800 035 035 in Australia. They only ask for the VIN/chassis number.
After having the battery replaced and losing the code in the process I emailed Nissan. No answer!! Finally rang after 2 days and got the code.
By then the radio only gave a continuous Err message. So had to disconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery and wait one hour before putting in the code. The code comes up on the screen as you put it in so you can check it. You can only use the buttons 1 2 3 and 4 so if the number is 7951 press no. 1 for 7 times then press no. 2 for 9 times, then 3 for 5 times then 4 for 1 time. You also lose any preset stations so you have to do it again.

"Hello muzza1951",

Thanks very much for your reply.

You may not have noticed that I am in England /UK.

I got the Radio Code from my Nissan Main Dealer Service Centre in July 2011 when I was having my Xtrail serviced and the front brake discs and pads replaced - plus new tyres and an Air Con Service with pollen Filter replacement.

They tried to charge Me £40.00 for the Code stating that they would have to actually remove the Radio to check the Serial Number - I was suspicious about this and I then told them that I wanted the serial Number when they did that - I received the Radio Code FREE - I did not pursue them for the Serial Number as I knew they did NOT have to take out the Radio !

I was told that as a `Good Customer` - having just spent £760.00 - they obtained the Radio Code for Me as a Customer Service `gesture`.

Telephoning Nissan UK would not result in being able to find the Radio Code for an Xtrail or any other Nissan Car - If they felt like being `Helpful` the best You could hope for would be to get the Telephone number of your nearest Nissan Main Dealer service Centre and advice to take your vehicle to them to get the Radio code - at a charge - probably now £50.00 !

When I replaced the battery on my Xtrail earlier this Year I found that I did NOT need the Radio Code - although I am pleased that i obtained it.

Thanks again for your interest and message.

Regards,

Chris

Chris.

Have a look at this site.
It's called radio-code.com and they find codes for all makes and models in most countries.

"Hello Tony",

I now have the Radio Code for My Xtrail - but I will keep a link to the website that You have recommended for possible future use - or to give to Friends who might need to obtain their Code.

Thanks very much.

Regards,

Chris

Re:

Hey X-Trailers,

just letting you know that I rang the number posted earlier (1800 035 035 - thanks Muzza). I was greeted with four options that didn't seem to make any sense to me, so I pressed zero (secret-squirrel non-existent menu option) and it was answered by a no-nonsense lady who went from zero to pin number in about 1 second after I finished reading my VIN.

I suspect, thanks to production line bulk-manufacturing minimum cost foo, that they don't generate a random non-sequential pin for each car that comes off the line, so reading your VIN number is probably akin to saying "I have an x-trail" and they give you the pin number that matches all x-trails from the same year / month / colour / whatever.

anyhoo, TL;DR is that the pin retrieval still works from that number.

thanks emoticon

Yes mate, that's why the need the VIN, it's unique and it is the reason it's being referred to as the "vehicle identification number" emoticon

That number is the standard Nissan customer service line, not only for PIN retrievals, but for complaints too.

Re: HOWTO: entering the radio's PIN and recovering from ERR

Hi all,

Just rang my local Nissan dealer and was told that to get my radio PIN (which was not passed on when I bought my X-Trail second hand), I would need to bring the car in, show my rego papers and pay $40! Instead, I followed the advice above and rang 1800 035 035. By trial and error I found that the required menu option is now 2, not 0, and got the PIN in 10 seconds, as well as instructions on keying it in.

Thanks to all, and especially to iaindb for the promise that a 'no nonsense lady' existed out there somewhere. Also, to the lady!

Re: HOWTO: entering the radio's PIN and recovering from ERR

I rang the 1800 number recently ( option 2, then 2 again). I gave my VIN number to the Nissan rep but unfortunately it was not listed on the data base. I was advised I needed to go to Nissan dealer etc. etc.
Luckily had my battery replaced without need for radio code.

So it appears that not all VINs have been captured in the Nissan data base.

cheers

Re: HOWTO: entering the radio's PIN and recovering from ERR

Hmmm, an interesting question.
I'm not sure Jalal whether it needs it or not. In the folder I received when I first purchased the vehicle there is a "sleeve" labelled Radio code. When I checked recently there was no code there. That's why I rang the 1800 number before attending the local battery outlet.
Anyway, when I had my battery replaced the battery shop owner put a device across the battery leads before disconnecting old battery. He said this was a precaution in case the radio etc did need a code. After new battery installed the radio worked as normal as did everything else so whether a code is needed or not in other circumstances of a disconnected battery I'm not sure.

All's well that ends well.

cheers
