Radio removal

I'm sure this topic must have been covered before, but after hours of searching I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. My first and main obstacle is how to remove the plastic trim from around the radio/cd-player on my 2012 Xtrail T31.

I have found photos with orange-plastic removal aids - but cannot see how they are used to release the clips, and try as I might, I have so far been unable to remove that trim. Which direction should the clips be pressed for release?

I feel sure that once it's off, the radio-removal job should be relatively straight-forward, but I'm quite concerned that I might break the plastic-trim if I use too much force.

This problem has come about because we need to recover the radio-code and having phoned a Nissan Dealership and then subsequently Nissan themselves, we have been told that the radio will need to be removed so that we can access the serial number of the radio. Giving Nissan the VIN of the vehicle did not in this case produce the radio-code.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re:

I don't have any specific advice sorry. But if you visit a few wreckers you might get lucky and come across an Xtrail of your vintage with either the radio still in there (unlikely) or probably even better the trim removed and still in the cabin so you can check out how it all works.

Re: Radio removal

If you are a paid member of the forum then you can download a copy of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) where there will be diagrams showing the location of the clips around the trim and the direction to remove it.

Re: Remove the Face Cover (4 clips, 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom

Thank you for the good suggestions. I hadn't thought of the wreckers - could be a good move if I'm able to find a similar model.

I don't normally have problems of this (trivial, but annoying) sort so hadn't thought of investing in the manual - but that's another good suggestion, thank you.

:-)

Re:

I finally succeeded in removing the radio-trim. I bought some cheap removal tools on Ebay - just over $2 including postage, just had to wait a few weeks for them to arrive - but just one of them did the job well. One the trim was off the radio-removal was straight forward - undo screws and pull out.

To remove trim - place hooked-plastic removal tool under the bottom of the trim (left or right side) and gently lever up and out. Repeat for the other side. Once the bottom has come out the rest of the trim can be gently wiggled free.

I photographed the radio-label and sent it into Nissan (at their request) and was rewarded with the code. But after entering the code it didn't appear to work. I again emailed Nissan with the new problem.

They have just rang me and told me that after entering the final digit I should the hold down the pre-select button #6 to save the code.

It worked! :-)

I hope this is of some help to others :-)
