Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

I am surprised by the lack of after market Nissan diagnostic software - I would love to be able to clear fault codes, do a regen etc.

That's because Nissan are very effective in protecting their information and the ECU details.

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

Android technology seems to be the way to go, some owners are reporting Torque works on ISO OBDII vehicles, and as you are aware I am working on the Consult II connection using Car Guage Pro which will read pre ISO diesels too emoticon

I used an ELM 327 V1.4 Bluetooth plugged in to the OBD output and it connects to the ECU. Once set up you can use the gauges to give you feed back on things like throttle sensor problems to your actual RPM being read by the ECU.

Issac who built the app  has been working on getting the information out of the ECU, the results which you can see here on PDF file showing a comparison between CGP and Consult II outputs on my YD, you should get the full monty on ISO compliant vehicles.

CGP Forum - Consult II for Nissan X-Trail YD

I do not have access to a Consult II, so Issac would like more data from anyone who is intrested in having a fully functional app for the X-Trail emoticon

If you want to use the app, you need an Android phone, and the ELM 327 BT connection. The app it's self costs £3.77 GBP. The app will automaticly update as Issac adds to the functionality of the app. You will need ELM 327 V1.4 or better if you do not have one. I bought my on ebay.

I have tested the DTC function by disconnecting the MAF, and then reconnecting it. Car Guage Pro read the error code and cleared it  If you have the dreaded orange light it may be worth you trying the app.

If you do use the app and have success let me know, and please post it on the Car Guage Pro forum too. Please include not only vehicle details, engine, year and spec, but also what phone and version of Android you have used. This will help other X-Trail owners and iron out any bugs

Car Guage Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=Scantech.CarGaugePro&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIlNjYW50ZWNoLkNhckdhdWdlUHJvIl0.

Hope this helps...

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

I have just received the Scantool (USB version) & loaded the drivers onto my trusty XP laptop.
http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-sx.html

Ran the OBDWiz software supplied , connected and was able to observe the P0488 EGR error code (see Diesel forum for EGR cleaning).

Saved the details and cleared the code. Surprising amount of data such as when it occurred and how far vehicle has been driven since error logged.

Also has a dashboard view which gives a realtime readout of several sensors, including fuel rail pressure etc.

This is going to be interesting emoticon

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

Just a bit more info on Consult II ECU readers and it is made in Aus. Only just got one myself but not sure if any one else has tried the DataScan II ?

Connecting to T30 ETi ECU emoticon

It is $69.80 AUD and you will need a connector. I know that the Blatz connector is no longer available but found that you can use a VAGCOM KKL USB 409.1 OBD "dumb" connector. I got mine off you know where for under £10. I have got some readings out of the diesel running it on Windows 7 laptop. The site mentions the T30 QR20DE engine as a supported vehicle emoticon

Log Analsyer screen.

Looks like it could be quite usefull for CarPC set ups ( yeah I know how old this thread is ) if you do want Android ?

So far easy to use, and usefull downloadable pdf manual. Support appears good and there is a forum for owners of the software. Will let you know what my results are once I have had some more runs with it.

Jalal - I noticed there was a group buy offer, may be worth contacting Tom. Only downside is it is not compatible with T31s.

Re: OBD2 scanners and Apps

Recently I purchased an obd2 'dongle' for less than $20 that connects via WIFI to ipad and iphone and another for $7 that connect via bluetooth to Android smartphones & tablets. Includes postage from China.
They work on the car power over 20 metres from the car without wires.
The cheap bluetooth adapters don't work with Apple because Apple's bluetooth is bastardised.
The WIFI ones work with either.
There are lots of them on EBAY - just search for OBD2

The both work perfectly on my 2009 X-trail. and great to have on hand if your light comes on in the middle of nowhere.

There are many free Apps for both systems that you can use, some you have to pay a few dollars for an 'upgrade" to use some features like resetting the MIL.
With some apps you can sit your phone on the dash and watch how well your vehicle is performing under load.

There are some very sophisticated Apps like DashCommand that you pay up to $10 for, You can see demos on Youtube.

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

Hi, just wanted to give you a heads-up, I have a 2008 T30 with QR25DE engine and Consult II protocol, not OBD, although the connector is the same 16 pin one. The Android apps that do work are HobDrive, Car Gauge Pro, Nissan Gauge and the one I use the most, Econ Tool, which is no longer available on the Play Store, but you can search "4PDA Econ Tool Scoba" and you will find it. The scanner I have is a PLX Kiwi Bluetooth, which works quite well.

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

Has anyone tried a cheap bluetooth ELM327 scanner on a newer T31 such as my 2012 2.5 ST? I've been googling away but can't find exactly which protocol it uses.
Although apparently the device supports "all OBDII protocols" I find it dubious.

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

Hi, I don't have a T31, but the way to know if your car is OBD protocol compatible is looking at the number plate located in the engine bay. The exact meaning of the codes printed there is explained in the service manual. There is one digit which tells if the car is OBD compatible or not.

Re:

hey all.. long time reader (maybe 6+ years?!) first time poster... great site with heaps of useful info.

old thread .. but just in case anyone was wondering.. was able to successfully use a cheapie ebay obd2 bluetooth elm327 on my old t30 series one exy.. seems there is some conflicting info on it.. let me know if you're after the exact details.

side note, i've been doing my best to keep my exy alive, and it's still going strong, so have decided to invest in an ICE upgrade.. cheap android unit by joying + elm327 bluetooth + reverse cam + dash cam..
and heres a pic with some of the realtime obd readings: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8dr2lvdwfv4mxjs/xtrailt30androidunit.jpg?dl=0
