I brought my new 2015 T32 X-Trail Ti model last week, previously owning 2005 T30 Ti and 2008 T31 Ti (those two being purchased 2nd hand). Okay, I’ve only had a very short time, and have only driven 500km’s, but here are my very “layman” comments so far.
Firstly, I do like the look of the new model, though I do find it difficult to tell it apart from other vehicle makes at a distance. I find it very “light & easy” to drive, and much more responsive to the other two I owned. I found the T31 a bit sluggish (though it was 7 years old with 155K’s on the clock), and sometimes I used the manual selection to keep the revs up while ascending long steep inclines. The T32 goes up those same hills without any problem whatsoever, and responded to further acceleration well into the incline.
I’m not into technology, and find the T32 somewhat a “computer on wheels”. Though in saying that, I’m slowly adjusting to all the new gadgets it has. I don’t mind the push-button start, but still find myself trying to turn the engine off on the right side with a key instead of the left sided start/off button. I like the 4 view camera set up, but my wife can’t get used to the rear camera (audible reverse warnings would have been an asset). I like the blind spot warning accessory, but could do without the gadget that beeps when you wander outside the lane – it does give off a few false alarms usually on bends. Never used a navigation system before, but got the hang of the inbuilt one pretty easily, and have had a couple of test runs with it. The digital AM radio is brilliant but does cut out a couple of times momentarily now and again, which I can live with. A similar good size glass sun roof compared to the T30 and T31, but only has half the actual opening capacity of the other two which caught me unaware. Don’t mind the automatic tailgate, but a word of warning – don’t swap over your rear number plate while you still have the remote in your pocket. When I was swapping over to my personalized number plates, the tailgate went up with the plate half hanging on with one screw. Tried the cruise control, and do like the speed selected remaining on the screen as well as current speed of vehicle. I like the digital speedometer. There are a lot of options to display on the computerised instrument screen, but I just stick to the basic options which appear with the digital speed display.
My biggest disappointment with the T32 compared to the T31 is the storage space. The wagon area is smaller, and I do miss the rear 2 storage drawers compared to the multi-storage system it has at the moment. Why did they remove the 2 extra side storage compartments on the dash above air vents, and the centre dash storage compartment? Also, lost the 2 little storage areas under were the old radio was located. The glove box is even smaller than the T31. However, I suppose that is all compensated with the ample leg room, both front and back. There’s leg room “to burn” for those sitting in the back, not to mention the higher sitting position for them as well.
I have read elsewhere that some owners do not like the headlights on their T32. My Ti has those brilliant "blue" headlights which I find great. Unfortunately, I know people travelling in the opposite direction hate them, including me.
Yes, I’ve only had the new T32 for a very short time, but at this point of time I very happy with it, and glad I’ve updated.

Nice wrap up of your initial assessment of your new T32. I can't comment on the loss of storage, as my T32 TL is my first X-trail and I am more than happy with the available storage and leg room (especially in the back).
I love the headlights on the T32, they are so much better than my other car (2010 Mazda 3 MZR-CD). I don't mind the lane departure warning, but it can be disabled in the systems settings. I also love the cruise control and its ability to set the actual speed you want to do, not like the Mazda where you have to get to the speed you want to do and hit set and hope that it is at the speed required. The speedo on the TL is actually 5 kms out (checked with a Garmin GPS), so I set the cruise control at a couple of km above the displayed speed.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, the storage on the T32 is good, if you didn't own a T31 previously. All it means for me now is that I will have to cull a lot of "stuff" that I had stored in the old T31, which probably isn't really a bad thing. My wife complains most about the lack of storage space in the front passenger area. I've actually ordered an extra piece that fits into the deep centre console storage area, making an extra shelf about an inch or two deep. Only $18 from China so will what its like when it gets here.
I did see where I can untagged the lane departure warning feature, but the day I do that will probably be the day I really need it. With the speedo reading, I think most cars are out about 5kmh, so that's not a problem for me - I like a little lee-way in my favour just in case there's a speed camera up head somewhere. As a matter of interest, I've driven about 10 different model cars recently (some work related), and the only car that was "spot on" with the GPS speed reading was my old 1976 Leyland Mini.
The wife has just come from her first day of "solo driving" the new T32. Said she always parked it away from other cars to keep it safe (good girl!). Only one initial problem - she had a mental block and forgot how to turn it off because the Start/Off button is out of view behind the steering wheel. She kept pressing the round dial of the radio on the dash. She finally worked it out in the end, without having to ring me LOL!

Hi Les,
When I first mentioned to the wife I was thinking of getting the T32 TL to replace my car, she said "I can get what I like, but she won't be driving it and she will just drive her car (a Mazda 3 MZR-CD)". She reluctantly came with me to the test drive and sat in the back with the step son (who is over 6 ft tall) and they were both commenting on how comfortable it was and how much room there was in the back. Once I bought it, I asked her if she wanted to have a drive and she said, just this once. Well I now have trouble getting her out of it. I think I spend more time driving her car, than I do the X-trail.
I will have to look at the additional shelf for the centre concole, that sounds very useful.

I wrote back in June of my favourable experiences with my new T32 Ti. It's now coming up to 5000kms in nearly 3 months.
I'm still very impressed with the T32. Apart from the poorer storage compared to my old T31 I have no complaints. It has much more power and is more responsive. My best petrol consumption so far is 6.4 litres per 100kms on a highway trip. All my adult passengers have commented on the ample leg room in the rear. I love the auto tailgate open/shut, the all round camera view, and the blind spot warning indicator. The foot hand brake isn't an issue except when I'm trying to put it on in my work vehicle - it doesn't have one!
Although I think(?) I'm getting used to the push button ignition, the other day I was sure I pressed it off when I was getting petrol, but when I was paying at the counter, I noticed that my LED driving lights were still. Yes, I hadn't turned the engine button off, but instead had turned the Enter button off at the display screen, which is next to the ignition button - oops!.
Yes, all's well with the car. Even the wife calls it "HER" car now.

Ownership thoughts after 10,000klm
My T32 ST-L 2WD has just had it's 10k service - here are a few impressions so far.....
I hate the reduced boot space, having had a T30 and T31 before this I really miss the extra room and, what idiot at Nissan changed the storage drawers for these silly sliding/moveable parcel shelves - the mounts for which take up boot space. As you can guess, I'm not impressed.
I also miss the storage spaces in the front. As someone else has mentioned, if you hadn't had a 31 earlier you wouldn't miss them, but I did and I do!
What I really like is the extra leg room in the front and back plus the moveable back seats - great. The quietness, comfort and smoothness are wonderful but likely to get you speeding fines - you just don't realize how fast you're going.
The fuel economy is also great- with mixed driving (extra urban, town, trailer and some longish runs) I'm getting around 7 lt/100k with a best of 5.8. On a little 4,000k trip last month I averaged in the low 6's. Roughly speaking, I'm getting an extra 200k's per tank over the T31.
The head lights are not brilliant (pun) so I've fitted a pair of LED spots - now that's what I call lights! The box they came in says you can read a newspaper at 500m and I believe them.
The DAB radio others have mentioned - I can't comment as it doesn't work where I live. I tried it once going through Sydney and it worked well, but the stations were rubbish.
I was disappointed to find the CD player only took one disc (6 in the T31) until I worked out the USB connection would play music from a memory stick. I borrowed CD's from my friends and loaded up a stick with about 800 tracks which gives me around 40 hours of music - who needs CD's anymore.
I have previously mentioned the out of date satnav system so I won't go through that again but what I have found (bearing in mind that I'm old) is that if you bluetooth link your smartphone and then search for somewhere which the satnav can't find, it will offer to do a google search via your phone and then put the destination into it's system - clever.
I have been running a plug in satnav (stuck to the windscreen) from the cigarette lighter socket in the main dash but cannot for the life of me understand why it stays live when the ignition is turned off. When you switch off everything stops and you assume it will stay off but Nissan tell me that the system checks every 15 mins and if something is plugged in then it turns it back on - a great way to get a flat battery. Why!
This seems to be all moaning but it's not really - I do like the T32 and am very pleased with it, maybe the T33 will sort out the little things or will I have to settle for the new Jaguar suv instead?
One last little mitch from me (moan/!@#$) is the turning circle is larger than before - there's not much in it but I can no longer do a u-turn in the back garden and turning into parking spaces needs a slightly wider approach than before.
The last thing, also designed by the idiot who did the boot, is that ridiculous foot operated hand brake. What can I say !

thought i would add my 2 cents worth on my recently purchased new poverty model 2016 X Trail ST
I've driven this car previously as a rental, however owning one you tend to notice things differently.
My previous car was a 2006 Honda CRV
Good
Love the CVT, and the economy that goes with it.
Great 2.5 motor
The ST model's weight falls in the lower registration cost bracket compared to other SVU's in the range.
You can change the spark plugs without having to pull half the engine apart, compared to nissans other cars :-)
The Bad (dont let this put you off though)
The boot size could be bigger or better laid out, for example compared to my previous Honda CRV that had ample space, much more than that the x-trail
The road noise, which is most likely due to the tyres. You tend to notice a whirling/humming noise at 60km/h
The build quality (body) could be better, and i would have expected it to be better, compared to the CRV, it seems like the panels on the x-trail seem cheap/thin and not durable at all. and im guessing car park bumps will show up very easily
The interior centre console cover could be made out of something more durable, i've already scratched mine (dont even know how).
Door rattles in the driver door...bloody hell its a new car and i've got 2 distinctive rattles. One which tends to happen on a very hot day (35 degrees) and the other one when closing the door with the window open.
The current colour range seems quite crappy. I've got the dark grey one. White is probably the only other decent colour. Everything else kind sux for me. Personally i'd love to see a nice deep blue colour.
The worst car to put front seat covers on. on my model the gap between the bottom and rear back rest at the back of it has the cover going all the way around under the seat. So you cant feed through the seat cover ties in the middle gap. i had to make small cuts in this carpet bit allow for that.
Surely the base model stereo would allow you to do voice dialing...come on nissan its 2016 and my 5 year old bluetooth handsfree allows this. while your poverty model stereo doesnt.
Nissan dodgy tactic of upping the car price when the 1% finance is on...youll notice they price the auto car at around $32k, however when the 1% finance is off they will offer the same model for $30k. Seem like something the ACCC or whoever the responsible authority is, should look into.
anyway my 2 cents worth so far.
