Fuel Gauge

I have read all the posts on this subject but there does not seem to be a definitive answer.
I have a 2003 Ti X-Trail.
I have the problem that the fuel gauge works OK till it gets to just under 1/2 full then suddenly drops to empty and the light comes on. The last time it happened it was between 1/2 and 1/4 and I had done 400Km. I stopped the car for about 2 hours and when I restarted the engine the tank read empty and the light was on. I filled up and the tank only took 42 litres. Has anyone had this problem fixed by Nissan and if so what was the problem.
Paul.

Re: Fuel Gauge

Am pretty sure Nissan replaced both of the fuel senders in both halves of the fuel tank to sort out this problem.
