T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

Recall Details

NISSAN—N16 Pulsar, Y61 Patrol, D22 Navara, A33 Maxima and T30 X-Trail vehicles
PRA number: 2014/14182
Date published: 27th June 2014

Product information

Product description
Nissan N16 Pulsar, Y61 Patrol, D22 Navara, A33 Maxima and T30 X-Trail vehicles built between April 2001 and June 2003.
Identifying features
Campaign number: R1407
 Target number: 25,941
What are the defects?
This is an amendment to the affected vehicles in the previous recall campaign that was launched globally in 2013.

The front passenger air bag inflator contains propellant wafers that are required to properly deploy the air bag. Some incorrect propellant wafers with insufficient density might be installed in certain inflators. This may cause the combustion rate of the propellant to increase inside the inflator, which can lead to internal pressure rising suddenly during air bag deployment and may result in abnormal deployment. In certain cases, the inflator housing may rupture and the metal fragments may scatter.
What are the hazards?
Abnormal passenger airbag deployment or metal fragment scatter may pose a hazard to the occupants of the vehicle.
Where the product was sold
Nationally

Traders who sold this product
Authourised Nissan dealers
Supplier
Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty Ltd
What should consumers do?
Owners of affected vehicles will be advised to contact their Nissan Dealer to arrange for replacement of the front passenger airbag inflator. The replacement will be at no cost to owners.

Re: T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

Mine falls into this range but having contacted Nissan customer service have no further specific details of this recall currently. I also updated my owner details but the consultant said in no uncertain terms that Nissan use RTA database to contact current registered owners. We'll wait and see.

That is correct indeed, however the Nissan customer service rep could have or should have asked you for the VIN number to determine if your exy is within the affected range.

Yes supplied VIN to the consultant but he was non committal and would've give an answer either way on the whether the car was affected by this recall. Obviously didn't have the required info. Which is somewhat annoying but I guess they prefer for people to receive letters so the recall can be done in an orderly process and probably to ensure part availability, considering the large number of vehicles affected.

Re:

This defect has now been expanded to other makes and models as reported in the news today HERE, as it seems Nissan used the same Takata airbag brand along with other car manufacturers.

Re:

Yes, it seems so. Expect a formal Nissan recall to be written-up soon advising of the VIN range and/or years impacted.

Re: T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

I rang Nissan today in regards to ours, they originally thought we were done in the original recall last year. However they said they are still sorting through the vehicles included and would be going through Qld Transport and registration details to contact everyone.
Not sure if it is helpful at all - just what we were told today.
