Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

How common is the clutch/dmf failure on the T31? Is it mainly seen on vehicles that do a lot of towing or off road use? Was set on buying a used T31 but stumbling unto this thread has put me off a bit

Mine was still going strong at 83000km when I sold it. I did lots of offroading and on some very difficult steep rocky terrain. I was going to change the clutch to heavy duty anyway if I hadn't sold it. I was also a bit heavy on the clutch so it survived my driving. lol

Thanks for the input Nananut. Did you ever find out what was causing the " rubber rubbing sound " in your vehicle?

Re: Re:

The service guys at Nissan said it was normal. Never had an issue though.

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

Hey guys, had a massive read through all the pages and thought I had all the info to get my clutch fixed/converted to single mass.

I bought an Exedy kit for the T31, everything went on without an issue, except the clutch plate.

The one I was sent doesn't fit correctly on the spindle, the manufacture swears it's right ones but it just blatantly doesn't fit.

I did some investigation and the clutch plate on it searching the LUK number (324-0274-10) it shows its for an X70 Interstar. Could the gear box have been replaced at some point and that's causing the issues with the plates?

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

I have also read through these posts. Thanks to all those that have contributed. It seems this page has been going a LONG time. By now there must be some good up to date data on how good/bad/issues there are with converting from a DMF clutch to a SMF clutch?

Anyone experienced expensive drive train issues as suggested in some of these posts?

Are they excessively noisy or reasonable considering its a stronger clutch?

How long has your SMF clutch lasted?

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

As Jaiman posted, I'd also like to hear from anyone who's done the SMF conversion for their T31.

The clutch on my 2013 manual petrol (63,000km) is dying and I'm reluctant to go down the path of a DMF in case it fails prematurely again. I do mostly city driving with some camping on weekends but nothing seriously off-road.

What are your experiences with either SMF conversion or replacement DMF?

TIA!

James

Hey James

I'll be in the same boat soon too, did you end up going SMF?

Cheers

Re:

Hi all,

The clutch on my 2007 T30 X-trail with ~160k on the clock has had some issues of late regarding pedal feel. It's usually related to the angle of the car with the issue most prominent when going downhill. Basically, the clutch pedal will sometimes press all the way in without engaging the clutch. After a pump or two it will resolve and the clutch works fine with no slipping. This is an intermittent problem with the clutch being fine most of the time.

I've just had the car serviced and was quoted ~$750 to replace the master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch fluid.

What is everyone's thoughts on this? While I'm not a car mechanic, I've got some experience with hydraulic systems and to me these would be consistent with air in the lines and that a bleed and replacement of clutch fluid would resolve the problem.

Very happy to be corrected though.
