Re: Thinking about oversized tyres on T31

Bit confused,,, looking at new tyres for my t31, have 17"rims. Wanting a bit of a lift for sand driving, what is the largest tyre i could get? 235/65/17 or 225/70/17?? or is there another size that would fit?

Re: Thinking about oversized tyres on T31

Bruce,
You will need to look at the Tyre Placard on your vehicle which will list several tyre size options.

You will need to calculate the diameters of each of the tyre sizes listed. Use the Tyre size calculator that can be found at :-

http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Using the largest tyre diameter listed on your placard, you can use a different tyre with a maximum of 7% increase in overall diameter without certification as per the Vehicle Standards Information sheet No6, item 13 (Modified November 2013) of which a copy is attached below.

http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/safety-rules/standards/vsi-06-light-vehicle-modifications.pdf

hope this helps.

Re: Thinking about oversized tyres on T31

Will a 235/65/17 spare fit in your tyre well??? You wont want to run a different size spare if you are unfortunate to suffer tyre damage.

I know a 225/60/17 does but can't comment on larger sizes...................

Re:

225/65/17 doesn't fit in the tyre well unless you completely deflate it and I doubt 235/65/17 will fit in the well.

Re:

I didn't think 235/65/17 would fit under our wheel arches.

I used to run 235/70/16 with a lift, and that was tight, with the odd bit of scrubbing. Yours would be another +2mm OD. Without a lift, you've got no chance of them working.

Re: Re:

I,ve been told by other Xtrail drivers that 235/65/r17 will fit on t31...
235/70/r16 is 5.7mm smaller in circumference than 235/65/r17
does having a lift increase the size of the wheel arches?
I,m assuming having a spare tyre with a different size (215/60/r17) would void insurance claims?
