After reading a great deal about the Pre-Cat issue where shrapnel is sucked into the engine and blows it into a billion pieces! I started to investigate.
My engine at the moment has about 175,000Km on it and not burning through any oil. So thats a good thing, however could someone tell me by looking at the attached photos if they think my cat substrate is about to fail?
Also, I have been looking for an alternative exhaust header in the event that it needs to be replaced, I have found that Nismo make a genuine Cat-less part for the R spec Altima / Sentra so I am sure that it will fit onto the X-trail as the gasket and bolt pattern look identical.
Part number is : 14004-RNB55
My next question is, I have an 04 T30, I can only find 1 O2 sensor, is this right? If it is then the swap should not need any modification to the O2 sensor?

Re: T30 Pre-Catalyst Issue That cat looks like it is degrading, you can see where the substrate is starting to fail and potentially could be damaging the motor, but on a motor with that many km's it could be worse. I sourced a new manifold cat from the US for about $200 USD and was of surprisingly good quality, it looked better quality than the oem unit which is hideously expensive.

Thanks for your reply xr5turbo, and its been a while since I was on here but have been travelling! Think I will take the Pre-Cat out one day and remove the internals in the workshop, then put it back together, well thats the plan anyway. Just need to work out the sensor issue.
