Re:
The only difference is a few mm in the offset; but yes they're effectively the same. I'd strongly advise against getting the same rims as me though, as the reduced offset means the wheel/tyre sticks out too far and doesn't rise centered inside the wheel well, resulting in scrubbing on the guards. Tyres are 235/70/16 muddies.
EDIT: not sure if that tyre size will fit inside the wheel wells of a t30. Someone with a t30 can probably tell you that. .

Re: Aftermarket Rims and Alloys
Hi All,
So I'm trying to decide on new rims to go with the new Bridgestone Dueller ATs (235/70R16 LT) I want to get as the existing factory 16" steel rims and Dueller HTs (215/65R16) have my Speedo out by about 5.5% when compared to a GPS.
Firstly, in Qld is that a legal tyre size as I have read through soo many reviews (and calls which referred me to VSB 14 - 4.2.4) and none have definitively given me a straight answer. Secondly, I believe with my raised suspension I shouldn't have an issue with clearance but can anyone answer the scrubbing issue that Ian Ewing touched on.
A number of on-line stores (like Beaurepairs and Jax) can provide a visualisation of rims that will fit your year, make and model of car. Most tyre shops I visited whilst in Brisbane leant towards CSA - Edge, while I was looking at the Speedy Wheels- Liberator as they slightly resembled the new models rims.
I would still like some individualility, but does anyone know of a rim that is similar to the 17" newish model XTrail rims that come in 16" sizes?
Cheers for any help,
Benjamin
FYI the web page for that document is http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/NCOP11_Section_LS_Tyres_Suspension_Steering_V2_1Jan_2011%20v3.pdf

Ian, will these wheels and tyres fit under a standard height xtrail? Also, is your speedo out? I am hoping to have a dedicated off road wheel / tyre combo and hoping this setup works.
Cheers

Re: Aftermarket Rims and Alloys
Hi All,
So just an update on my tyres for my T31.
Originally had the factory set up 215/65R16 Dueller HTs on steel rims.
Now I have 235/70R16 Duellet ATs on same steel rims.
Admittedly I've had the Pedders lift kit installed before the tyres were fitted.
I've driven about 9,000km on them in 3.5months.
No issues I think they're great, not even scrubbing at full lock or fully loaded towing a fully loaded trailer.
Done one trip off road (300km on dirt road at 80-100km/hr) and had no issues.
Admittedly I didn't even let them down from 38PSI.
My only dissatisfaction is I believe they're the reason for my poor fuel economy when towing at full speed. Yes I could reduce speed from the maximum speed limit but when you gotta drive 1,850km that 20km/hr slower makes a big difference when you want to get home in 2days. Did the trip down in 24hrs!
Very happy though :-)
Cheers,
Ben

In theory, yes, as that size tyre/wheel diameter has been used in AT by quite a few members here without any lift kit. All depends on what tyres you plan on using however. Currently only myself, and more recently one other member (AugustusXTtrail), have fitted mud tyres(MT) to our xtrails. I had the lift kit installed a week or so before having the wheels/tyres fitted, and mine scrubbed a bit more than they should be allowed to (mainly on full steering lock or articulating offroad), but I would confidently say that had more to do with my aftermarket steel wheels having the incorrect offset than anything else. I think the only difference between the AT and MT in 235/70/16 could be the tread depth and the aggressive lugs on the sidewall, but I'm not a tyre expert and can only tell you what I know.
And YES, my speedo is "out". My tyre diameter is 7% larger if memory serves me correctly(?). I've been radar tested and have also double-checked with my GPS, and as far as I can tell, my speedo is now running EXACTLY true, or I under-read by max 1km/h. 7% is the new maximum increase in OD you can have in nsw, so that's pushing it anyway, haha.
