Re:

Not possible sorry. As soon as you replace the manifold which has the pre-cat built into it, you will need to put a catalytic converter further down the line to make your exhaust system legal, you can however choose to leave the rear section of the tail pipe standard. In any case, I don't think any exhaust shop (in Australia) has designed the headers for the T31 as yet, as only the cat. back system/s are available at the moment. (please refer to the exhaust section of the forum).

Re: Xtrail Cat 2006 model T30

I see, in that case has there been any reports of the factory precat causing problems on the T31? Or has Nissan rectified the issue?

There has been no reports of pre-cat failures in the T31 model that I know of.

Hi Jalalski,

Is it possible to use the factory manifold with the pre cat gutted and have an after market stainless steel cat installed further down the exhaust (on a T31)? Would this keep things legal and functional?

In terms of legality, this set-up will be legal indeed but you will have to re-position the O2 sensors for it to function correctly without the ECU triggering a fault.

Re: Xtrail Cat 2006 model T30

Since the cat is on the exhaust side how can it end up in the engine?
Pieces coming off would be blown out the back...

Re:

There are 2 cat converters in the car and the main one is part of the manifold (also called pre-cat.) and that is the one that gets sucked back to the engine. The one you're talking about is the 2nd cat. converter under the car.

I'm with you.
There is also a sensor coming out the exhaust manifold.
Is there chance of damage?
If so is there preventative action?
Thank you.

There would be 2 O2 sensors in a car that has 2 cat. converters. As with all ceramic core catalytic converters there is always a chance of damage, but this usually happens when the car is driven in higher RPMs for a prolonged period of time. Normal driving won't cause any damage to the cat. converter.

Jalal,

My service Manager { I'm now his personal client ;} 'emoticon' tells me that our short city driving lifestyle will potentially clog up my Cat ... ???

His advice to give the Xtrail a good run up and down the freeway for maby an hour or so once
every couple of months or so makes sense to me.
