As soon as you replace the manifold which has the pre-cat built into it, you will need to put a catalytic converter further down the line to make your exhaust system legal, you can however choose to leave the rear section of the tail pipe standard. In any case, I don't think any exhaust shop (in Australia) has designed the headers for the T31 as yet, as only the cat. back system/s are available at the moment. (please refer to the exhaust section of the forum).

There has been no reports of pre-cat failures in the T31 model that I know of.

In terms of legality, this set-up will be legal indeed but you will have to re-position the O2 sensors for it to function correctly without the ECU triggering a fault.

There are 2 cat converters in the car and the main one is part of the manifold (also called pre-cat.) and that is the one that gets sucked back to the engine. The one you're talking about is the 2nd cat. converter under the car.

There would be 2 O2 sensors in a car that has 2 cat. converters. As with all ceramic core catalytic converters there is always a chance of damage, but this usually happens when the car is driven in higher RPMs for a prolonged period of time. Normal driving won't cause any damage to the cat. converter.
