Re: T31 bash plates (Full Undercarriage Protection Set)
Hello fellow X-trailers,
I'm not good at using computers, so I have to quote page references 'cause I don't know how to make links.
Re "Full under-body guard T31 petrol"
Looking at the front end:-
Post:- Page 4 - Jalal 11/2/09 - 9:06pm and through to Page 5 - Jalal 18/3/09 - 9:54am.
TJM sump guard.
I had one of these fitted Nov 2012.
I also had the nasty vibration. This was caused by the engine mount flanges of the rear torque rod fouling the sump guard under acceleration. (Rear torque rod shown in the manual on page EM 182 - item 6).
Simple fix - cut a hole to clear.
This problem has been mentioned previously, but I can't find the post.
The all-up, drive away cost of this in 2012?
$252.
Most likely a bit more now.
Now the rear end:-
"T31 Rear Bumper acts as a sand scoop (rear bash plate solution)"
Page 1 - Tim551 - 6/7/2008 - 4:58pm
I designed my own SKID plate. (Note that I didn't say BASH plate). It's 600mm wide x 400mm deep/long.
The front edge of my design only extends approximately 50mm forward of the centre of the spare wheel well.
Not enough?
Well, if someone traverses territory rough enough to bash in the spare wheel well of their T31 Exy, then I suggest they invest in a Patrol.
The X-Trail is not designed for that sort of work.
I have taken my Exy on some very grotty trails in the mid north coast forests and have gone within a poofteenth of ripping out the so-called rear bumper (sheared the two panel clips), but the spare wheel well hasn't even been grazed!! I only want to protect that rear bumper.(Has anyone gone up Kurrajong Road (Road?) in the Collombatti State Forest north west of Kempsey? The last 500m to the lookout is nasty!. There is a better way to get to it though). Don't bother looking for it on Google Maps - it's not there. As far as I can tell, It's only on 1:25000 topo maps, and even on those, it shows as a dotted line.
We all know what that means.
My design is made from 2.5mm galvanised steel and it weighs 4.7kg (theoretically - I haven't got it yet - it was ordered today).
The cost? $78.50.
The diff?
No plans at the moment. (No marks on it yet. I guess I was lucky when I drove over boulders).
One may come to the conclusion that my baby has been treated with kid gloves.
Well, it's true.
Look underneath the rear end and it's still black and shiny.
The inside of the wheels are cleaned.
The wheel wells are spotless and the plastic inner guards look as new.
I keep a very detailed log and here are some figures:
Bought new June 4th 2010 (April '10 build). km on odo - 11
km as of last Friday - 113224
km breakup - 85% country - 15% metro.
There's not one panel on it that hasn't been scratched.
Not too many beaches, but lots of narrow forest trails (hence the scratches from trees and bushes).
So, in conclusion: $252 for the front guard
$78.50 for the rear
That leaves approximately $900 for a postage stamp size diff guard.
Sorry Jalal, but I think $1300 is a bit steep.
I don't mean to offend.
Thank you to all the members that have posted subjects that I have spent many, many hours gleaning information from and therefore expanding my knowledge of our much-loved machine.
Best wishes to all for now and for Xmas.

Re:
No offence taken at all Rogan and that it your own opinion which you are of course entitled to make. At the end of the day you get what you pay for and these bash plates have indeed saved many xtrails over the years, so it's not an imaginative claim and being made in Europe and specifically designed and tested for the T31 X-Trail they do indeed come at a cost that not everyone can afford.
I never said they were the only solution to protect the under-carriage of your X=Trail, but they were and still are the only "complete" solution in one package without having to worry about modifications and cutting any holes to suit.
In any case, this will be the last batch of them as I will not be placing an order anymore. Too much hassle and waiting time which I no longer can afford to commit.

Re: T31 bash plates (Full Undercarriage Protection Set)
Hi Jalal,
let me know if you require a 'local' to manufacture any of these going forward.
Custom manufactured items for ongoing supply is what i do, from 1 offs to small batch qty's right up to production runs I can assist.
Based in Adelaide, full 1-stop service.
have supplied to tjm and gitsham in past times, sing out if you ever need.
In the meantime im currently measuring up my t31 diesel rear-end for some 'more substantial' protection, it will most likely be more a brace bar which interconnects where the towbar mounts to the rear rails, off of which will be a skid plate, with attachment points to have a couple of skid bars and/or plates mounted to.
I have seen what sand does to the rear bar..., and id hate to see what some steep angles will do WHEN I try them, as its not a matter of if, but when i do.....
ciao for now....
