Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

58phil; sure, go ahead and show them this thread!

To update my post of 4 April, Lander Nissan replaced the EGR valve under warranty. They showed me the old one - the one-inch diameter port looked completely blocked with soot and they told me it was not repairable, it was not possible to clean it. I did not argue with this as they were replacing it under warranty!

I have now done 1500km with the new EGR valve and software update. The engine performance is noticeably better, it spins to the redline more easily but in normal driving it is often in a gear higher than before (it is the auto gearbox), happy to spin at 15 - 18k rpm. So, more torque below 2000 rpm.

The fuel economy before the repair was 8.3L/100km over about 5000km. Now, 1500km since the repair: 7.5L/100km!

Lander told me that they do not expect the valve to block again because of the improved version of the EGR valve and the software upgrade. They also told me that they believed that the previous owner must have used the car around town but with few long runs at 100km/h.

So I am happy with this, and my experience with Lander Nissan was very positive.

Cheers,
Bill

Re:

Anyone interested in group buying some of the Provent filters from the US, to save on shipping. I took mine out 4,000kms ago (for 80k service) and looks like i'm getting oil on my new filter. Preferably Western Sydney or Canberra, to minimise domestic shipping.

Re:

Hi Guys,

Just been reading through this thread and noticed there has not been an update for a few months. Has the new EGR valve and updated software fixed / improved the issue with the oil in the air filter?

I'm in the process of looking at a new (second hand) car and there is a couple of good 2013 xtrail diesels that I am interested in but after reading about these problems I'm now having some second thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

I have just had my 20k service done, the oil was on the airfilter, not too bad but the mechanic cleaned out the box and fitted a new filter. He reckons most Euro turbo diesels have the same problem.

It's the stuff also pooling into the intercooler that needs looking at. The Provent certainly reduces this.

Still have to crack the cooler open and clean it - not looking forward to this.

Re: Strange engine noise, oil on the air filter & erratic fuel gauge.

Hi,

My Nissan Xtrail diesel is also having oil in the intake and airfilter, I dont have any error codes or EGR problem yet, but my fuel economy is poor, I believe this oil problem could be the cause.

Any idea if this could be the cause?

Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

Probably have oil on the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. It should be located on the intake between the air filter box and the turbo. You can buy specialised cleaners from auto parts stores. It only take two screws to remove it for cleaning.

Very nice install - great pictures, this really helps me

Hi Michael,

What size hosesAdapters did you use to connect from ProVent200 to the engine & air intake?
Where did you source these components?

Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

Hi Rudive,

I got a kit from ebay. Will contain all the hoses you'll need.

What it doesn't include but you will need is:
 - Little bit of sheet metal for 'L' brackets to mount the unit
 - Little bit of paint if you wish to paint the brackets
 - Super sharp utility knife (the oil and heat resistant hoses are tough)
 - 2 x 5/8" 90 degree elbows
 - Spiral hose wrap (optional)

I pretty much followed the instructions posted in this thread somewhere.

Admin Edit: eBay link REMOVED Please do not link any eBay item on the forum and use the eBay reference number instead.
