Re:
Not really mate, it's always better to pack something you don't end-up using/needing rather than not pack it and needing it when it's too late
Without having the luxury of a support car at my disposal if I had room for the kitchen sink on the bike and it was within its carrying capacity, I would have packed it in for sure That's the good thing about touring and sports touring bikes
I was the only one who thought about packing the chain lube and brush, so the panniers were lightly packed with stuff like that and also a set of allen keys and ratchets and the rest of it (first aid kit, zip ties, tape...etc)
I would love to see the list of things you will take on your Tassie trip on your DL

Re: Members Motorbikes
I was only teasing, the tas trip will include:
Tools
-Small 1/4 socket set
-Allen keys
-front and rear axle bolts with a cut down breaker bar
-cable ties and 100mph tape
-small can chain lube and tyre repair kit
-rachet spanners
My dad and I can split the tools between us.
Camping gear:
-compact tent
-inflatable bed roll
-sleeping bag
-inflatable pillow
-small tarp
-trangie cooker (metho cooker)
-utensils plate etc
-stool
Dad and I split this between us, I carry the cooker he carries the utensils. Plus my clothes. The tent and sleeping gear all fits in one side pannier. clothes go in another which leaves me plenty of space in the top box. The DL also has 2 x tool tubes that are mounted to the inside of the pannier frames. they are about the size of a 1L water bottle so al the tools fit in there. Everything I have purchased was bought so it would fit in the panniers so that i don't have to strap anything down
But for Phillip Island, I just carry a tank bag and everything goes in the support car :-)

Re:
Good stuff mate and it is very handy to have built-in panniers and a top box on the bike. I think I should look for the ones that fit my Triumph I think the factory did make original panniers and top box for it.
Oh, don't forget the wet weather gear and spare gloves.

Re: Members Motorbikes
There are (or were) panniers available for the Sprint range. Other models had soft panniers with custom pain protector panels included, which were basically thin ABS plastic that went over the tail fairings to prevent scratches from the pannier buckles. They had a seat pad that went over the pillion seat and was semi-permanently attached, meaning you could just unbuckle the panniers to remove them.
The soft panniers come up pretty regularly on ebay. You don't really need the paint protectors - just use some of the kid's book contact!!
For my first Daytona 675 (which was initially used as a street bike, then street/track, and finally track only), I bought an el-cheapo top box and bracket for under $100. Then I found a damaged pillion seat that I was able to bolt the top box bracket to. It meant that I could detach the whole kit pretty easily if it wasn't being used, plus it was pretty neat and cheap!!
I also made some spacer brackets for my panniers that kept them away from the bike's rear panels... and the under-seat exhaust. It also stopped them flapping around in the breeze!! Again, it was pretty cheap as I made it from 25x3mm alloy strips you can get from Bunnings.
I dredged up the old thread:

Re:
The DriRider (or very similar) Soft Panniers is what I have at the moment as well, but I find that I need to start them with zillion of straps for them to stay in an up-right position without dangling down too much with load. I much prefer the factory look if I can find them at the wreckers.

Re: Members Motorbikes
OK, so this thread has been quiet for a while now, so am not sure if any of you is still riding out there or not LOL
I finally managed to convince my wife to jump on the bike with me as a pillion and she loved every moment of it last weekend during our short ride to Cape Solander in Kurnell
I asked my wife if she was interested in pursuing the “riding” hobby a bit more seriously and she replied “it depends on the type of motorbike”
So, with this information in hand I started my quest to find her a suitable and “easy to operate” bike and I got lucky early this week and was proud to present her with this find
Max, I'm thinking or riding it to Phillip Island this year mate. I reckon it will fit in one of your panniers
BTW, are you going to the MotoGP this year or not?

I am not sure if I will be going this year, as I am saving up my leave for the Europe Tour next year. Will see how I go when the time comes this year.
