Here's my other mistress.
2006 Triumph Daytona 675 track/race bike.

Mods include: Slipper clutch, Braking wave rotors, Braking adjustable levers (with crash pivot), Valter Moto rearsets, adjustable clip-ons, Puig DB screen, fibre glass race fairing, Wheel detent kit, swing-arm pivot modification, thinner head gasket for raised compression, 520 chain conversion with Renthal sprockets, Triumph Triple Challenge decal kit with extras, GB racing engine covers and crash protection, captive wheel spacers, recovered seat, MOSFET reg-rec upgrade and relocated, EX-UP and intake flapper removed, manual idle adjuster.

This ol' girl has history! It won the 2008 BEARS F2 championship ridden by Chris Payani. It then went on to be raced in the Vic titles by a guy from Colac until I bought it last year.

I was at Broadford on Saturday for my first track day this season, and she's booked in for Phillip Island on the Monday and Tuesday of Cup weekend in November.

The only real mods that I'm considering now are a Starlane quick-shifter, new warmers and probably 190 rear slicks (instead of the stock 180).

Re: Members Motorbikes

Hi Guys,

Just returned on Tuesday from a 2,300kms round trip to Phillip Island to see the MotoGP and I must say that the performance and riding comfort of the Triumph really surprised me. The handling of the bike with all the weight I was carrying was amazingly accurate and predictable and it was going around the twisties of the Alpine Highway with great degree of accuracy and confidence.

I guess the bigger engine does make a difference on such long trips and I loved every second of it.

Here are some pics from the action packed trip and weekend at the Island

Can't wait until next year and with Suzuki joining the MotoGP it will be a ripper for sure emoticon

Re:

I toured NZ on a Sprint RS for 3 weeks and loved it. I was well geared up too and found I took gear that I never ended up using!! The bike handled the weight very well and the Akropvic pipe sang a wonderful tune!!
Back home, the (now) missus used to ride 2 up a lot with me as well and found it comfortable - all I did was add a little more pre-load for the extra weight, mind you all up rider/pillion combo was 200kg!!

When I traded the sprint on a 2002 Daytona, the missus found the higher pillion seat and wide set rear pegs gave her really bad hip cramps... and that was the end of our 2-up days!!

From memory, my old girl used a fair bit of oil as the original owner thrashed the s**t out of it, and I think they also disconnected the speedo cable so the display was significantly out when I bought it. That's why I traded on the Daytona straight after the NZ trip... before things went belly up. But I still love the triple howl to this day...

Re:

Yeah mate, same here, I packed things which I used last year (like shorts and t-shirts for example) and it ended-up being freezing cold weather at the Island, so I used none of it. Not having a support car with us meant that one of the Ventura 51LT bags was completely used-up by the camping gear, but I will pack smarter next year for sure (I keep saying that I know) emoticon

The combined weight of me and the luggage was well over 200kgs I reckon and I didn't need to adjust the pre-load at all. Actually I even forgot about it emoticon

I fell in love with this bike after this trip, so am giving it a full make-over at the moment (re-spraying all side fairings which the previous owner/s scratched) and will probably be trading it in for a newer Sprint ST 1050 or GT model. Has to be Caspian Blue though, as I love this colour emoticon

Re:

Not enough time mate. Had to be back home early. Tony and George have done it and hated every moment of it, they were stuck behind a convoy of 50 cars or so.

Re:

That's why I'm track only now. I couldn't afford the risk of losing my license as it will affect the other licenses I use for work that are all tied in together. The missus also T-boned a car that turned infront of her a wrote off the VZ with both young kids in the back. I guess it's just risk minimization from multiple angles as well as the rego and insurance costs... that's probably 4 or 5 track days alone just in those expenses!!

The GO Road, Black Spur, Reefton Spur and almost any other road that WAS Victoria's biking draw card are sadly all now heavily policed and speed restricted. The GO Road is especially saturated with tourists (some of whom are on overseas licenses) and you just get balked anyway. And if you get caught overtaking a car it's stiff bickies.

I was pulled over twice in NZ when I was there 10 years ago. I was given a polite "....now be a good boy..." chat and sent on my way. The coppers were a bit more laid back and friendly too.

In NZ, I had 2 Ventura bags zipped together but they were jammed full. I took all my gear in a suitcase and then transferred it once I arrived. I even had panniers but found I didn't need them, however I wish everything wasn't so tightly packed as it made things difficult to access. It was a three week trip (without camping but required sleeping bags) but I still took a decent amount of tools, lube, oil, first aid kit etc. I guess it's one of those Sod's law type situations - if you hadn't packed the kit you'd need it but since you had packed it, you didn't need it. From memory the only tools I used were a screw driver to adjust the lower clicker on the rear shock!!

Now days, if I were to get back into touring, I'd pretty much take the basic spanners (8, 10, 12, 13mm), 1/4" socket set with only those bits required (8, 10, 12, 13mm), shock spanner, rear axle nut spanner from the OEM kit, Allen keys (3, 4, 5, 6mm), multi screw driver, cable ties, knife and tape. Plus a first aid kit... so that I know I won't require one!! Unfortunately I'm not one of those guys that can just pack a toothbrush and a spare pair of jocks!!
