Re: Flaring at idle Hi All
I know this is an old post now but I was wondering if anyone had any further info/conclusion to this issue.
I am now experiencing a very similar problem.
I was thinking about resetting the ECU but am worried that if there is a high idle error that is not caused by the ECU, then when i reset the ECU it will learn the high idle as the natural idle speed and so perpetuate the problem.
Anyones thoughts or knowledge as to the flaring idle issue would be much appreciated.
Re: FLARING AT IDLE 1700-2500 RPM. Thanks Jalal!
Performing the idle reset seems to have taken care of the flaring idle issue!
However, I suspect that the idle whilst no longer flaring, is still high as it is around 900-1000 rpm.
I will now try resetting the ECU and if that doesn't bring the idle closer to 800 then I would guess that I need to replace the TPS. (my crank shaft position sender went last year at 110,000kms and I replaced the camshaft sensor at the same time just for laughs)
Re: idle flaring Hi have the same problems with idle flaring from 1700-2500 and would like to know the outcome to the problem. I have replaced appsensor, throttle body. Cant relearn idle even with the proper diagnostic tool. An experienced auto elect has checked out every thing he can think of, spent 1.5 hrs on it but no change. Hope someone can help.
Re: Hey a few weeks ago I was cleaning my throttle body with a cleaner and rag when I must have messed up the spring in the tb, it was fluctuating between 1500 to 3000 depending on the operating temp.
I fixed this problem yesterday finally by replacing the throttle body module and doing the 'pedal dance' to reset my idle, now the suv idles very nicely around 950
I found the replacement tb for $85 from a local junker, it was from an altima but it had the same serial # as the xtrail tb.
Re: FLARING AT IDLE 1700-2500 RPM. Hi all
not sure if it is the same or not..
A couple days ago I went up the beach and noticed on the way back the idle was pretty rough and sounded a bit low
and seemed to vibrate the car a tiny bit more then its used to.. any way got home pulled air filter out and all good
then while it was running stupidly pulled I think its the maf/air flow sensor off the motor rpm droped nearly stalling
then increased to probably about 4k rpm so I quickly plugged it back in... then it had an engine light and was in limp mode
so I reset the ecu with the fuse method.. and took it out of limp mode buy had engine light on.
plugged in obdII bluetooth device checked codes it was air flow sensor and air flow temp which I guessed is what I disconected.
so I cleared them.. now if I rev it itll sometimes sit at 2krpm and some time not.. or if its at 2k and I put load on it for a secon then take it off it drops back down to the rough idle which the obd says is 800rpm.. I did the pedal dance thing im pretty sure it was correctly as the dash lights did what theyre meant to but still its doing its sticky 2k rpm thing.. its like having a sticky mechanical throttle that you have to
force back.. a little confusing..
also how do I get a pic under my name on the left hand side?

Re: Hi Adam,
If the manual process for the idle re-learn didn't work, you will need to take your car to a Nissan dealership or a mechanic that has Consult II to perform the idle re-learn electronically.
