Polishing from new

OK, I'm a bit mad, just ask my wife & she'll tell you. She reckons I'm just a bit too anal about having clean cars. Trouble is, I actually love polishing my cars. For that reason I don't buy the protection pack from new. I'm skeptical about their worth anyway plus I do heaps of kilometers so I have a 2 yearly turnover.

I only ever use Meguiars products on my cars. From new now I use Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax. I do the complete car as soon as practical after taking delivery. I also go over the front, bonnet and roof 3 times so it has a really good coating. Ultimate Quik Wax is not like cream wax where you get a buildup, you can go over it as many times as you like without too many issues. The other great thing about it you don't get that whiteish haze on black plastic, it is clear and actually makes the black plastic parts look new again.

I use a separate microfiber cloth for application because it gets soaked in the wax quite quickly. I then use a dry cloth to buff off excess then finish with a Maguiars microfiber "buffing towel" (see picture)

Then I do it regularly once every month or 6 weeks at most. I still wash weekly or more often, and use Maguiars Ultimate Detailer to bring it back to a high shine. It is a really good product and so easy to use. For dusting off when it is just dusty during fine weather I use a Maguiars dust mit. You can shove it in the wash every week if you like and keep re-using it.

The things I notice from doing this is my cars do not seem to get as dirty as others when it rains, the first flush of muck in the wet seems to just roll off. They are also easier to clean when I do wash them. The other good thing is they stay like new. My wife's ASX is 3 years old now and still looks like it just drove out of the showroom. People at work are always asking me "does your car ever get f#*%ing dirty haha

The Nissan paint has always been good (on others I've owned) and buffs up to a high shine -

If you are enthusiastic enough to do as I do you'll always have a car with a high shine that stays like new for a lot longer. I reckon it makes you feel good when you drive a clean car.

Happy cleaning

Re:

Ha, ha, yeah it is nice driving a cleany, but unfortunately living in the bush only gives you one day of that. Then its back to dust or mud. Thankfully though I chose silver for my X and it doesn't look as dirty as my blue Rav used to, which I gave up cleaning regularly as it was a waste of time and only gave it a scrub about 3 times a year. Though it was a damn dust bucket on the inside that I had to vacuum out all the time which drove m nuts. Thankfully the X is sealed like Fort Knox in that regards. Your 32 looks like it would be a looker in the colour it is, haven't seen even one 32 on the roads where I live yet. Damn, there's 31's everywhere, like locusts, but no 32's.

Re: Re:

There is a thread on this in Whirlpool.

If unaware of that source: it is quite useful.emoticon
