Re: rear modular storage system

Spent yesterday afternoon knocking together a storage system for the back of the X-Trail .... total cost $60 for 2 sheets of 1200 x 900 x 12mm ply, $80 for 2 x Ki-Tab crates & lids, and about $10 for screws & glue. Just need some carpet to cover it & some tie-down points for the unit & the icebox.

One of the boxes holds all the cooking gear (gas stove, pots & pans, etc), the other one holds the non-perishable food. A 10L water jerrycan fits neatly either side, tent/chairs/bedding etc on top.

Might put a fridge slide on it if i can find one cheap 2nd hand, but we usually take the icebox out anyway when camped & put it in the shade.

Re: rear modular storage system

I bit the bullet and built a false floor with a 60L fridge slide. Its on hinges so I can still access the rear wheel. I'm wanting to get some gas struts so that my partner can access the spare easily enough.

for those who used them on there rear draw system, what size strut did you use and how did you decide where to mount it so that it would work properly?

here is a pic of my slide. check out the full build in my members ride thread 'Max's T30"
