Loss of power and low compression could also be a cat degeneration symptom.
I'd suggest pulling the plugs to see if they have been closed as Jalal suggests then remove the O2 sensor and inspect the cat converter for damage.

Yes it affected Australian models of the T30 and No recall was done. Nissan Australia don't want to recognise it as a problem.

It's your call mate. You have to weigh-up your options and how long you intend to keep the car for as well as your driving habbits. If you like to hit high RPMs and/or tow something heavy which requires the car to be in high RPMs for a prolonged period of time, then you might as well spend a bit of money and be on the safe side rather than risk turning your car into a piece of metal with a dead engine.
You need to know that once this fault happens and these little screws get sucked into the engine, there is no turning back and your engine will be dead! No amount of fixing or rebuilds will help the car to ever run the same again.
