I think the general advice is..... don't go spending money on a lift thinking that it will solve your sand issues. It won't. Just spend time practicing, driving with other experienced drivers, and most of all have fun with it.

I may be kidding myself but I reckon the car's ability to skid over deep sand helped maintain momentum AND keep everything intact.

Re:
You're after a quick justification for the bash plates?
Here it is:
quick calculation of the cost to replace any of the major undercarriage components will show you the true value of the bash plates:
• The approximate cost to replace the front Oil Sump is $2,200 (parts only)
• The approximate cost to replace the rear Differential is $4,500 (parts only)
• The approximate cost to replace the Rear Bumper is $900.00 (parts only)
That’s close to $7,500 just for 3 components of your car not including labour to fit them. The full undercarriage protection and the bash plates will make sure these expensive components are fully protected and will replace the pathetic plastic guards that are there at the moment.
Would you rather take a chance of any of these components getting damaged while you're having fun? One time is more than enough to rip the rear bumper off.
Yes, it's cheaper just to get the front one, but from experience, it is usually the rear bumper that goes bust first if you go sand driving.
Anyway, it's your call of course.

Re:
Go for the bash plates sand or no sand. Seems a bit pricey to start with but they are cheap insurance. . I'm on my second front plate but I do lots more than sand. lol. The back one is still looking good and does keep the bottom of the bumper neatly tucked in so it doesn't catch on anything. Have a look at the full undercarriage thread. Start from pg 42 and work your way backwards. A few posts about broken bumpers in there.
