T30 specific clutch questions

Hello,
I've been searching through various threads, and although I've found mention of my clutch issue, I haven't yet found a clear, simple answer. Hope you may be able to supply one.
About two months ago bought our 2002 Ti, with 200 000 on the clock. Now has 206 000.
One thing I noticed when taking it for a test run before buying it was that the clutch pedal was very stiff, and had to be pushed all the way to the floor before working. It's still the same, has to be on the firewall before changing gears, most of the pedal travel does nothing. What I would like to know is:
1. Is this a sign of a problem?
2. If so, what, specifically?
3. What would you recommend as the best solution?
I realize that I'm asking a lot, and thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Re: T30 specific clutch questions

Thanks for your reply Bob, glad it has worked for you. Still not sure if my symptoms mean I need to do something like that, though. I only paid $6000 for the car, so paying $2000 for a clutch and SM flywheel is not an attractive prospect!
