Re: how much are T31 towbars....?

Hi Folks,

I'm about to start the process of ringing around for Towbar prices. The Nissan web site quotes $1040 Fitted (Yikes!) ... hopefully when I call my local Nissan service centres I get a better price than that.

Has anybody in Brisbane done this recently and like to share their experience and how much it cost?

Thanks,

David

Check the thread "Towbar Wiring for T31". Already lots of pricing in there. emoticon

Thanks Phil. Amazing the difference in price between Preston Nissan in Vic and Village Nissan in Qld. I think I need to try a few other Nissan dealers :-)

A common theme in these threads seems to be the confusion of aftermarket installers over what is (or isn't) needed when dealing with LED lighting, hence my reluctance to go thru one of them.

Yes David there are mixed opinions. My personal point of view is that if you have a new vehicle, like I do, to get a factory tow set up. If only for warranty and authenticity/resale. The business about LED lights is the biggest source of confusion. I have heard everything from possible damage to the cars ECU to no problems at all when choosing the means of wiring (factory issued loom or made up item). At the end of the day I decided to go with all factory, fitted by a reputable accessory shop (Truracks). They have used both Nissan and Hayman Reese bars (same manufacturer, identical anyway) and both Nissan and their own made up wiring. No problems either way. The advantage with the factory loom is no splicing into the cars wiring, it just plugs in.
Cheers,
Phil

Re: how much are T31 towbars....?

Towbar update....
I now have my new Nissan bar fitted with the genuine wiring loom.
Truracks at Penrith did the job and have been great. Evan is the man!
A couple of interesting things have come up in the process....
According to Steve Jarvin Nissan where I bought the bar and loom these T31 bars are made by Nissan in their own shop. He is quite adamant that Hayman Reese do not make the T31 bars for Nissan.
The guys at Truracks reckon they fit up slightly different too. And the plug in wiring loom takes about an hour extra due to having to pull most of the rear boot section lining out for access.
But job is now done and I'm very happy with the bar, the ECB nudge and the Integra steps. emoticon
I'll get some photos for the Rides section.
Cheers,
Phil

Re:

So, what is the final verdict on the wiring loom and relay for LED Tail Lights, is it needed or not?

P.S. Nissan would never admit that they and Hayman Reece share exactly the same facilities to manufacture these towbars! It is only recently Nissan Australia set-up a brand new division and factory to manufacture the towbars themselves.

No relay, just plug into the respective light sockets with a sort of twofer plug.

Edited by Phil to add: Now I just need to hook up my trailer that has plain old school globes to see if it all works OK!! My gut feeling is it will....

Re:

i have a TAG towbar, which i got installed in Fairfield for about $550 (the TAG has a slightly longer hitch neck than the HR and Nissan Genuine). I've hooked up halogen and LED trailers up, with no problems. There was only one issue, when the bunnings trailer took out one of my fuses, but that was because they're rubbish. Never had problems with the 4 other trailers i've used. And i have a series IV with LED tail lights. I doubt for the price i paid for the towbar that they'd have put a seperate LED module
