Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hi, Im new, just bought our first 07 Xtrail.

Firstly, what a great forum, very informative. Only problem is i seem to be on your site for hours finding new things to read and have to force myself to get away from computer.

Ive just spend hours reading and re reading this thread.

My question is this.
I want a "kitchen sink".
I don't have controls on steering wheel.

Do I go straight to Brash's and buy that one OR Ebay.?
my problem with Ebay is I don't know which seller to use as I would like a reputable seller within or with offices in Australia.

ANY help would be much appreciated as Im ready to buy it straight away,

Cheers John

re kitchen sink

Hii Kurt
The unit you want is OK, just add a comment line to your order that it is for the trail and Koa son will include the correct cable.
Regards
Les

Great, thanks for the info.

Thanks

John there are heaps of sellers, choose one with good feedback and read some of the last feedback comments.
The e Bay products can be just as good as the shop products and many members here will agree with that, oh and much cheaper.

At the end of the day the choice is yours and with how much money you wish to spend.

Good luck.

I was going to order with them, but I instead have gone for the Brash's one. I know its more expensive but I wanted the piece of mind of an Aussie seller. Plus I contacted Dave at Brash's and he was honest and told me heaps of info. Im getting mine when he gets back from OS.
Can you let us know how you go with yours? and did you order yours thru Ebay or through their own site?
cheers John

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hey All, received the Koason unit after all, although i'd say response from seller is still poor.

Product is great though! Better quality than expected. Installed it yesterday (easy to install) and no issues. Weirdly my phone steering wheel button works too, without any custom mods.

Had some issues with built in mic which doesn't seem to work (unless there's some hidden setting to enable it which i couldn't find). Connected external mic and it was OK. Mounted it on the steering cover right under the dials.

Next weekend i plan to install rear view camera.

There seems to be an earth/ground black wire with like a fork end. Couldn't figure out where this should be attached. The unit works without having it grounded / connected to anything and left it at that. Not sure if it's correct though.

Hi Kurt
Connect the black wire to a body frame to ground the unit. You are using the antenna ground return to provide the negative to the unit which may not be of sufficient size to provide power for long periods and MAY burnout the wire.

Les
