First X-trail

We pick up our new Nissan x-trail ST next week. We have owned a Nissan Pathfinder which was a great car. I am pleased I have located this helpful forum.
I am making the decisions (well mostly me!) about 'extras'. I would really like to add the display with GPS and reverse camera. However the quote from a local firm is $2,000 (includes steering wheel controls). An Alpine system (free map updates for 90 days). We do have a portable GPS so that would suffice. However, I would really like the reverse camera. Are there any things I should know?
I will be organising window tinting from a local firm and have been reading here on the forum the discussions re window tinting (so ending up a bit confused). We live on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. I also want to buy front seat covers. Is it worth paying for the parking protector side strips?
The car will be equipped with bonnet and headlamp protectors, floor mats, and a driver's windowshield.
Many thanks.

If their name is at the bottom of the posts I usually go off that, some people don;t want others to know their name and just go by their username.

Makes it more personal and friendly using their names I think.

Re:

Hi Kerry,
It might be a little easier to answer your questions regarding modifications if we knew what year/model, etc your exy is? But to try and answer a few quick questions, you can get up to 35% tint on your front two windows(the driver's side is the minimum requirement, some states include both), and everything behind that is a free-for-all. I'm yet to hear anyone sing praise for the plastic parking protector strips, and to be honest, they leave a bit to be desired aesthetically. The gps/reverse sensor questions will require a model/year etc to ascertain what you're actually afterou will more than likely find most of what you seek in the appropriate threads. We're a helpful bunch here, but do try to utilise that search function as much as possible, as I can almost guarantee you what you're looking for is in there somewhere emoticon

Happy Xtrailing Kerry, and welcome to the forum.

Re: Re: New x-trail

Ian. Thankyou. Drove my beautiful new x-trail home in the rain yesterday. I know at the test drive both of us commented that we will need to monitor our speed carefully as we feel like we are driving at about 40kmph when the speedo says 60kmph. I felt like I was holding up traffic yesterday but was travelling at the stipulated speed zone.
The model is auto 2.5L CVT ST. With headlight and bonnet protector, driver's side windshield and floor mats.
We thought the windows looked as though they had been tinted but they have not. The tinting quote is $225 (naturally that price is not from Nissan but a third party supplier).
The quote for the GPS/reverse camera setup is Alpine DVD/NAV/RADIO/IPOD/CAMERA/USB IS $2028 FITTED (Includes steering wheel controls). I do have model nos (albeit hard to read). The Alpine premium (ie maps for 3 years) is $2627.
I have no idea whether Alpine is a premium product or where it is manufactured.
Haven't made a decision on the GPS install as yet but I am certainly interested.
