Re: Touch up paints (in spray can form)

Hi,

I have a 2006/09 MY06 X-trail ST, which, according to the manufacturer specs is platinum in colour. As a result of somebody recently backing into the rear bumper of our vehicle at a local shopping centre, I now have a dent and scratch on the back plastic bumper which I would like to repair.
I believe the platinum touch-up paint colour code for our vehicle is KY0, but am a little confused after reading several previous posts on this forum, whether the same code i.e. KY0, also applies to the platinum colour on the bumper bars ?. Visually, both body and bumper bar colours appear, to me at least, to be the same, but an earlier post mentioned that the bumper bars are not a gloss but matt finish.
Would be greatly appreciative if someone could please clarify that this is in fact the case re my 2006/09 Platinum X-trail, and if so, what colour code should I quote when purchasing touch-up paint for the bumper bars?
Also, if you could advise of a brand of suitable plastic filler that is recommended for repairing plastic bumpers -- I have already used a heat-gun to straighten out most of the dent, but would like to smooth out some of the remaining low spots with appropriate plastic filler. The only one I've found so far on the net available in Australia is Plastifil made by K+H.

Many thanks.

Cheers,
Tony.

Tony,

The Platinum colour-code is indeed KY0, but when you spray paint a body panel it will different when spray painting the plastic bumper.

The plastic bumper itself is textured and not smooth as the body panels and that is why it will give the matt effect when you look at it compared to the rest of the car.

Whoever is supplying you the paint would know what to give you when you tell them you're painting a bumper bar. There would be different surface preparation procedure for it too.

Re: Touch up paints (in spray can form)

Hi Jalal,

Thanks for the reply.
Originally I was just going to pop into Supercheap Auto and purchase one of their off-the-shelf touch-up paints for KY0 Platinum -- Power Plus or Holts range etc. I already have a can of plastic primer which I used about a year ago to respray a repair I made to the plastic bumper on our previous 97 Camry -- basically it's just a plastic adhesion promoter applied before the top-coat. However, it sounds as though in relation to the X-trail bumper it may not be just a simple matter of purchasing an off-the-shelf product at the local Supercheap store (?).
Can you recommend a store in Sydney where it would be advisable to purchase the correct paint, and perhaps where I may also be able to purchase some form of plastic filling compound? I would like to smooth out the remaining low spots if I can prior to spraying?. Thanks again for the reply.

Re: Touch up paints (in spray can form)

I previously purchased the touch-up paint (made to order) from Repco at Taren Point. They can mix it for you while you wait and am sure they can offer advice as to how to paint the plastic bumper as well. They might even come-out and have a look at your bumper to suggest a correct method nd paint

Re: Touch up paints (in spray can form)

Finally got around to going in to Repco to pick up the touch up paint and I was informed that the QX1 colour, was for the 2004+ vehicles in Pearl White.

Can anyone confirm that this is the correct code for my 2003 exy.

Thanks.

Brett,

QX1 is the Series II White Diamond and QM1 is the Series I Polar White (which is what you need).

Refer to THIS thread for details.

Re: Touch up paints (in spray can form)

Just in case anyone comes up on this older thread, you should be able to find your colour code listed on the sticker on the inside cover of your owners manual.

Obviously the colour set in the latest series has changed since Series 2 that Jalal had posted. I'm not sure on the full range of colours but I do know that Black Diamond is G41. If you are unsure of your colour code, check your owners manual
