Re: WARNING: T31 Potential Rust Spot

Off memory there wasn't any rubber seal off mine, and it was FILTHY in there! I gave it a liberal dose of WD40 to hopefully slow the corrosion...but there was red dust everywhere.

Re: WARNING: T31 Potential Rust Spot

All things come to those who wait.....whether you want them or not!

I had the car checked over for the leaking high mount brake light and the rusting screws on the chrome cover back in April when it was in for a service and the garage reported that all was OK. We've driven through some fairly heavy rain in the year or so we've had the car and never seen any sign of leaks so I assumed we'd escaped this problem. Wrong! I opened the tailgate this morning (after leaving the car outside in the torrential rain we had in Sydney last night) only to find a steady stream of water dripping from the joint in the plastic mouldings that fit around the inside top section of the window. I guessed what the problem was and sure enough when I showed the guy in the garage he agreed......it's the gasket around the brake light. No issues at all in getting it replaced but they couldn't do it immediately as they didn't have the part in stock. So they've ordered a new gasket and I'll get it fitted on Wednesday. Just hope the rain eases off between now and then, otherwise I dread to think where the water will seep into.

With "the steady stream of water dripping from inside top section of the window" I would say it already has.

Re:

Steve,

Take it to the dealer you bought it from and ask them to make a warranty claim for the rust spot.

New car warranty goes for 3 year or 60,000kms whichever comes first.

You are outside of the manufacturer's warranty as the kms tarvelled are already over 60,000kms. The only warranty that may apply to you is the 3 months 2nd hand purchase warranty from the dealer if you haven't purchased an extra warranty to go with the car when you bought it.

Hi Guys,

Another problem which has been confirmed to me by a Nissan dealer today with the T31.

It is the external high mounted brake light which has been reported to leak water into the cabin and causing major damage to the roof lining.

Nissan dealers have been advised to replace this brake light with a new type that is sealed or has a stronger seal, so if you experience a problem with leaking in that area, approach your dealer immediately as it will cause rust issues down the track if not fixed.

I'm only very new to the forum, and have just bought a T31 2013 x-trail, does this issue concern my x-trail by any chance, as it's not even 12 months old as yet?

I have a 2011 model and this wasn't an issue any more, so I think you will be fine.
