Re: XTRAIL MIRRORS - IS FOLDING THEM BACK DAILY O.K. ??

"Hello Julie",

Thanks for your interesting post - as I live in London [England] I won`t have to worry about Kangaroo`s - but it was interesting to read that something as large as that did not cause any damage to your Xtrail.

I have paintwork damage caused to My Xtrail by women walking past and dragging their handbags along my Xtrail !

Thanks again.

Regards,

Chris

"Hello Jalalski",

Good to hear from You again.

Apart from having had loads of damage to the rear bumper from people parking behind my Xtrail - I actually I have had some damage done by women`s handbags.

Once where I was standing near to my Xtrail and saw the person`s handbag buckle scratch the car`s paintwork as she was passing another person on the pavement - she of course denied it and what could I do - answer - nothing !

And another time when I had just washed the Xtrail and gone all over the car drying it off - so I knew that there were no scratches where the damage was soon done:

I was looking out of the window at home while waiting for a Taxi when I saw a woman drag her handbag across the rear corner of my Xtrail - there was no reason on earth that she had to get so close to my car - let alone drag her bag across it.

I went out as quickly as I could from the first floor of my home and exactly where I had seen her handbag dragged across the back corner of the car was a fairly bad scratch ! - as I mentioned above that scratch was NOT there when I washed and dried the Xtrail only about an hour earlier.

I did try to see if I could find her but she probably got into a car around the corner and drove away before I could get to her - in any event what could I have done ? - answer - nothing !

Regarding tradesmen dragging their toolboxes along my Xtrail - I have been told - seen in person and seen on My CCTV MANY times when Builders / `Tradesmen` have gotten far too close to my Xtrail with all manner of building materials - including steel RSJ`s - Floor Joists - Doors & Windows - Copper Tube AND their Toolboxes while carrying out building work etc. for my neighbours.

Events which were close enough to actually make You cringe when you saw them - some really bad damage would have been caused !

Thanks for your reply,

Regards,

Chris

P.S. - This is NOT meant to read as insulting to Women - what I wrote about here were very irritating events - I notice that there are more and more Men using `Man Bags` [here come the insults] - luckily there have not been any instances of damage to my Xtrail from those yet - hopefully if any do hit my car they will not have buckles on the bags !

"Hello again Jalalski",

The parking damage has become a nightmare !

I cannot even comtemplate having the damage to the rear bumper filled and painted as the cracks are so long / bad that ANY flexing of the resin bumper would definitely cause the cracks to open up again / adjacent to the repairs.

This could happen within days of the repairs.

I will probably decide to have a new rear bumper fitted - perhaps because it will not be badly cracked the hits / touches to the bumper by vehicles being parked will not be causing the bumper to further deteriorate ?

I have lived in my home for about 26 Years and have had many cars and vans parked outside on the road - NO other vehicle has been damaged like my Xtrail has with people parking next to it - I can only recall ONE incident on another of my vehicles during those 26 Years.

I have probably had about 25 incidents of hits to the rear bumper - One hard hit / `crash` that caused the bad cracks and then many others that made those cracks worse and left other scratches / cracks / marks.

The hard hit / crash was done when I was not at home and no-one else saw or heard anything.

Regarding finding another place to park at home - all of the surrounding Streets are very busy regarding people parking during the daytime as there are Shops - Train Stations - Schools - plus Doctors and Dentists Surgeries in the immediate area.

I cannot keep the Xtrail undamaged when parked outside my home - let alone if parked elsewhere - also imagine how strange it would be to have to park your car in another road - near where you live.

Regards,

Chris

Re:

I've finally gotten over what my 7 year old exy looks like. It's always looked good until earlier this year.

Someone ran into the back a couple years back and I got it fixed.
Then a wallaby jumped into the left front mudguard earlier this year. I got it fixed.

Three weeks later someone backed into the right front and left no note. Not major damage just scratches.
Couple months after that I managed to back over a low light & into a skip, in the dark at a block of flats. So now the back end matches the front end.... emoticon

I've given up. In both cases I'd be up for the excess on insurance, $1200 in total and not really worth it for scratches.

My exy is now starting to look very used.

Re: XTRAIL MIRRORS - IS FOLDING THEM BACK DAILY O.K. ??

"Hello again Julie",

I hope that it was obvious that my comment about the Women`s handbags were definitely NOT me having a go at women - I really was just mentioning how easily my Xtrail has been scratched when not even being driven - I hope that I did not offend You or any other female members / readers.

I am probably more sensitive / irritated about the damage / scratches to my Xtrail because lately I am only driving it on a Sunday - it is being damaged / scratched while parked outside my home in a good area of London.

I have done very little mileage during the last 3 Years and the Xtrail has been parked on the road at home almost every day - Monday to Saturday - I reckon that I have 30 plus marks on the body of the car - without the damage to the rear bumper and wheel arch.

Sorry to hear about the damage that You have also had done to your Xtrail.

Regards,

Chris

Hi Chris
No offence was taken, it's just that I've finally given up on trying to have a new looking exy.
I remember what parking was like in and around London in 1970 - I cannot begin to imagine what it would be like now.
cheers

Hi Chris
Before I had my xtrail, now parked inside garage, my suzuki vitara suffered bumps to front and rear bumpers , solution large second hand Bullbar attached to front and tow bar and rear bullbar at the back consequently no more damage.
I know theres not many Bulls or Kangaroos in London but it might stop the damage from other objects
Regards
Jeff

"Thanks Julie",

Only after writing my first reply to You did I realise that my comments might have seemed slightly sexist - the furthest thing from my mind !

Parking in central London really is almost impossible - it is like winning the Lottery to find a parking space anywhere near where you want to go - even if You do find a space ot is expensive to park on the street and as you probably know it is illegal to come back and `feed` the meter.

Using a central London Car Park can cost as much as £40.00 per Day - or £10.00 to £12.00 for 2 Hours.

Where I live is in a London suburb of South London - quite a nice area - but parking is still very hard to find during both the Daytime and in the Evening when people return home from work.

What I have seen and been told happens to my Xtrail is that there seems to be small spaces left behind it during the day and people try to park vehicles into those spaces even though it should be obvious to them that their cars are too large for the space - they find this out when they `Hit` the bumper or wheel arch of my Xtrail !

Thanks again for your reply.

Regards,

Chris
