Hi Ray,
I have had the same problem. Occasionally will not start and fuelled up plugs. Hold the accellerator to the floor and eventually she will start.
It took me a while and about $1,500 to catch on to the work around but she is still not fixed.
Has the O2 sensor replacement fixed your problem?

Ironic but I notice we have the same year and model. Mine has nearly 300,000km and this is the first time she has really let me down. emoticon

Hi Anthony,

In your case, you need to change the CAM and Crank sensors (both of them).

Thanks for the reply. I have had both these sensors changed but it has happened a couple of times since then. The last couple of times I over came it by holding the accelerator flat to the floor. It's not a fix but it keeps the X-trail on the road.

Also, there is no error code. It is very frustating. emoticon

I was hoping the O2 sensor might have been the answer but if Ray sold his, it might have been because he could not find a fix?

There is one more sensor to change, the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) emoticon

All of the T30 models are now having these sensors play up on them as they die due to age.

Re: Engine not starting

Thanks for the heads up. At 10 years and nearly 300,000km - anything age related is suspect.
The issue appears to be too much fuel (flooded?) so the TPS or O2 sensor are certainly avenues to explore.

My wife is taking on this X-Trail so I have to find the solution before she sells her car or there really will be trouble.
I have already bought my replacement ..... another X-Trail of course! emoticon

Re: Engine not starting

Thanks Kev, all the symptoms point to Bore Wash but I did not understand exactly what causes it. That is, the injectors leak and the fuel upsets the seal of the rings resulting in a loss of compression but what causes the injectors to leak in the first place? Is it the ECU, a crook sensor, injector wear or ..... emoticon
