Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

Or just use the distance to empty display on the trip computer.
Thanks for that thought.
However, doesn't this rely on the level sender being accurate?
For eg; If a fuel fill results in a sender indicating say, 60%, then your (calculated) distance to empty, DTE, will only be 60% of the maximum possible.
ie: 60L tank @ 10L/100km = 600km range with everything working okay.
Computer thinks you have 60% content, therefore, DTE = 60% of 600km = 360km DTE.
It does mean you will (be annoyingly prompted to) fill before needed, but isn't the whole idea of the DTE to provide a better (read: computed) estimation of range?

Good point.
Is this issue only with the Series 1 and 2 variant of the T31?
If I'm checking out a wrecker's sample, the VIN plate will tell me the month/year of production.
What month/year did the Series 3 commence?
Thanks...

Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank
Just had a regular service done at Lakeside Nissan today, mentioned the fuel gauge had played up. They replaced the senders under warranty no problems, works well now. Service and replacement completed in one hour.

Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank
So the Exy went into Werribee Mazda today (dealer I purchased the car from second-hand) for the fuel gauge to be checked. The guy I spoke to in Service seemed pretty knowledgeable and had seen several other different vehicles with split tanks, and knew of the two fuel sender units. I 'swapped' the mini truck for a Mazda 3 courtesy car and was on my way...
On picking up the car, I was given the invoice which says:
Labour: Inspected vehicle for fuel gauge not working.
Inspected fuel sender units and found both resistor tracks worn.
Supplied and fitted new sender unit and pump unit.
Tested all OK.
There was no costs shown as it was completed under the 3 month statutory warranty.
Obviously the first thing I did on the way home was fill up to test it!!
Gauge showed 1/3 tank with 411km on trip meter. I put in 39L which all sounds right, and the gauge now shows FULL.
She's fixed!!
I was a pretty stand up response from the Werribee Mazda. I half expected to be brushed aside as it wasn't a roadworthy type issue and I've heard horror stories (not from this dealer) of things being dodged while covered by the stat warranty.
