This is my first post in years,
The LED strips are the same blue as you blue park lights, my x-trail has LED white light bulbs and they make the blue lens in the x-trail look more blue. When Iwas pulled over a few years ago beacause of the blue light in NSW (this means illegal in NSW to me)
I removed my globe with parkers still on to show that the globe was white and the lens of the veh was blue the officer said he will have to add this veh to his list the other veh was a Honda Odyssey

These white LEDs look bluish only because they have a high colour temperature and so against the usual halogen bulb or incandescent parker they look blue when in fact they are just "whiter" - average cop won't understand this though.

The SMD (Surface Mount Device) Leds seem better matched to ordinary bulbs colour temperature wise although they still seem slightly bluish by comparison - or taking this the other way, the Halogens look yelowish.

Strictly speaking, all Australian Sold cars need to comply with the Australian Design rules regarding lighting and modification must be according to these rules.

These rules are very specific regarding type of lights, colour temperatures, brightness (lumens) and positions and method of turning on and off eg Daytime Running Lights must come on with engine and turn off when any other light (Parkers or headlight) is on.

Also there can only be a maximum of 3 pairs of white lights at the front and they must be equally spaced pairs. Headlights and DRLs have specified limits in there locations height wise and also maximum distances from the sides (ie need to be near the sides at front).

Your lights are probably illegal but there are so many variations on the road now (from manufacturers) the cops won't push the issue unless they feel your lights are glarey or confusing.

If the cop feels your lights add to visibility they probably won't worry - so try to install them in a professional way so they look like they could be legal. eg just have a short strip (6") at the edges of the grill (almost verticle and in line with the grill sides) right out by the parkers and get rid of the loops and bends. Should still look Aaaawsome!!!

How do you explain then the HSV commodores (GTS, Senator,Thunder) that have the DRL's on even when all other lights are on.

Tony, they most probably have DRL dimmers fitted, so the intensity/brightness of the LEDs is reduced when the main headlights are turned-on. That's legal and within ADR.

so thank you.

just as an update, I have driven past (that I have seen) 7 cop cars now and none have turned around and pulled me up, this is with the LEDs turned on during the day and at night.
and the police officer I spoke to said they aren't illegal and so did his sergeant.
No idea why because to me they look to nice to be legal emoticon

but from what I have read through out the xtrail threads is in NSW the police are real anal about lights. Here in victoria I haven't been pulled over yet despite cops driving past me (coming towards me)
so either I am super lucky, or police here just don't care to bother with something so small like that. Now if I was driving a commodore I am sure they would have pulled me over straight away emoticon

I have added a few extra exterior goodies to my exy and I will post them up soon when I can get time to take photos (working 7 days a week) emoticon

on that note, I would LOVE to meet some exy owners in Melbourne, I am young (25)
but I LOVE my car to death.

Agree Jalalski - driving back from Port Augusta today saw a few modern cars with factory S shaped etc and normal straight and also the wicked BMW Angel Light DRLs.

Most of those that had Headlights on (real crappy day here) had the DRLs still on and dimmed (almost as if they replace parkers).

Seen lots where the DRL by the indicator that is flashing gets dimmed as well (so you can see the Indicator properly).
