Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Hi Edward, Jalal and Tony,
I think what Edward is referring to is the ESC Electronic Stability Control switch, which is in the bottom right of the dash. If you remove the fuse panel cover and get your hand up inside to the rear of the switch, you can also apply some pressure from the front as well. The switch comes out from the rear. I found on the two I have done, that pulling the switch to one side helps get it past the retaining clips with a bit of wriggling.

See the location in my original post HERE

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Hello All,

Two weeks ago I did this mod connecting the wire to the Electronic Stability Control switch: thank you John!. I just want to share with all that the most difficult part was to get out the ESC switch: I pulled it from the rear and pressed from the front as well but nothing. Helped with a flashlight I realized that was a clip on the middle of the connector which had to be pressed to released from the socket. I didn't take a picture at that time but I will take one this weekend and post it. Thank you all for this great mod. emoticon

Regards,

Hi, here is the picture with the ESC connector plugged out and the clip in the middle (red circle) that has to be pressed to release.

Another picture, showing the steering controls lights. emoticon

I hope it can help other people.

this mod DOES NOT WORK on this model. plug is the same but the wires are different, plug does not have vacant spot. i tested out all the wires, none of them will light up the steering controls.

I finally got around to trying this mod and it didnt work with my series 2 diesel TL....I put it all back together, went and had a coffee and tried again, just in case I did something wrong, I didnt emoticon

Re: Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Completed these 2 MODS at the weekend, had a bit of difficulty getting the Selector cover with CVT from the local Nissan dealer, as they were not happy to order the cover incase it was not the correct part as my part numbers were showing the same as there screen and this thread. So they sent me to the local Nissan breakers yard near Melbourne where I picked up the correct cover for $20 and a rear load area rubber mat for $60.
