Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

My bumper is rubbing on my back door and the black trim is showing signs of wear.
I now have pics of 15 exy's with the bumper misalignment in 4 days of taking photos.
I can tell you that the drivers are not aware of the problem until I point it out to them, I have recommended that they contact customer service and log it as an issue.
There must be a few complaints coming through from WA now..... emoticon

Hi Guys,

Nissan Australia has gone quiet on the bumper issue again, so it'll be good if you guys can give them a bit of a nudge in the Facebook thread HERE

I have followed a few Xy's with no towbar fitted lately and have noticed that all of them had a larger gap on the left than the right.
Maybe this has nothing to do with the towbar and is just the way the tailgate is fitted or bumper.

Re:

I find that hard to believe Tony and I haven't seen any T31 with a misaligned tailgate at the dealership yard, that's how the dealership realized it was a problem for those fitted with a towbar as they compared it to the ones without.

That's interesting Tony. Like Jalal I haven't seen any T31's without the tow bar showing a misalignment either.

I can't believe that Nissan in Japan would allow a car to reach manufacture with asymmetrical panel fit or gaps......it simply would not be signed off. The Japanese basically invented production line consistency.

Anyhow I know I saw my car before the tow bar went on.....tailgate bumper alignment was originally perfect.

Cheers,

Paul.

Re:

Thats right, in the car yards they all align perfectly, Its the ones you see on the roads that aren't aligned.
They might need a bit of driving and loosening up before whatever it is starts to move.

Re:

Still not convinced mate, especially knowing that the metal stabilizer bar behind the bumper which comes from factory would still be there and would keep everything aligned. I will keep an eye out on other T31s on the road or which come for service at the local dealership.

I also doubt it to be the case based on Nissan's response to date and their acknowledgment of the problem associated with the towbar and the solution they're trying to work on.

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

I just checked mine out and it seems like an excellent job done by whoever fitted the towbar seems a ltttle misaligned, a little bit out but not enough to rub.

That's how mine is as well Jamie. No rubbing for me either. Still, you fit your finger under the left side but not the right side under the tailgate and yours being black on black won't stand out as much as other colours.

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Hi Guys,

Here is the formal acknowledgment by Nissan Australia of the misalignment issue of the rear bumper because of the towbar:

Image

I reckon all T31 owners who had damage caused to the rear bumper and tailgate due to rubbing now have a strong warranty case to have this fixed by Nissan Australia.

In fact, new car owners purchasing a new T31 should ask Nissan if the towbar being fitted to their car will cause this misalignment BEFORE the dealer fits it in place!

The sensible thing to do for Nissan is to put all T31 Towbar sales on hold until this issue is resolved because they are selling what could be described as a "defective product"
