Re:

I think Dave was referring to the Barjo full bull bar. This is the only Australian Bull Bar I know of for the xtrail. All others, including the ones sold by ARB and ECB (nudge bars) are manufactured in China.

Re: Winch options

Not being familiar with what is behind the bumper in T31 models, there either seems to be enough room in front of the radiator to fit a hidden electrical winch or there is a bumper an under-carriage extension that is being sold which has provisions to house this winch as per the photo below.

P.S. Off-topic, nice of ECB to already design bull bars and nudge bars for the T31 Series 3 and 4, I will post this information in the corresponding thread.

Re: Winch options

There is definately room on the T30, and there are several variations of a winch cradle available in Australia, to fit most winches.
 Using plasma rope, means a hawser can be used instead of roller fairleads. This in turn means that a hidden wich will NOT need to have that big lump of metal hanging out through the bumper...it will be a chrome slot, like a post box.
No steel cable, no rollers, no massive steel bar....20-30kg weight reduction immediately.

Re: Winch options

this is what I did it myself. opinion is from bushwinch. my excuse to bushwinch company but I just did it to self use not commercial. It was very expensive for me to buy and ship to Turkey and also custom problems.

The result is impressive more and more than I expected. Here you may find the photos and videos of my construction. I made the drums from aluminium for to be light and stainless ;

And this video shows how it is simple and easy to mount the drums to wheel (just using my left hand, my right hand records the video)

This videos are just for trial. Firstly we stucked it in 2WD and tested. I know it is an easy position and the car was easily get out with 4x4 lock mode but we test the system as 2WD.

This weekend we used them in deep mud very effectively but unfortunately we couldn't record them because of PDA battery problem.;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc122R4Hu_I

My personal conclusions;
+Very easy to mount and recover
+Effective as electrical winches
+Can be used forward or reverse direction
+Safe (you can use it lonely when sittind at driver seat and also control the car)
+Wheels also helps to system when they catch any traction
-Can not help to other vehicles
-It may be hard in deep mud channel or underwater to mount drums to wheel.

I have seen these around and steered well clear of them.
Although they may work a few times and get you out, the damage caused to the CV's, bearings and front axle splines will cause premature failure for sure.

You will also need 2 sets as if winching in reverse, they will dis engage from the wheel nuts.

I can only imagine what a continues load on the studs will do over time. Definitely not an option I would consider.

Re: Winch options

I looked at the options very carefully after we got the Exy and the 4WD bug bit hard and figured that the sort of driving the X-Trail was designed for meant that I wouldn't need a winch. However, if I wanted to do more serious off road work then I'd need a vehicle that I could mount all the "toys" on. So I drew up a list of what I'd need and found a vehicle to suit.

That's why there's 2 Nissans in the driveway and why the Navara goes on trips where the misadventure component is higher. So you guys don't need to worry about fitting winches you just need to make sure you invite me on the trips (when I'm back home of course)

Tyre dimension is approximately 71cm. Drums dimension changes between 16-25cm regarding to rope wraped on it. So the drums moment distance to wheel center is 1/3 or 1/4 of tyre moment distance. Also when winching you just turn slowly. It can't have more damage effect than a hard accelaration or hard off-road spinning or hard braking. I don't thing that a Nissan soft-roader is that much weak.

For winching forward or reverse, just simply changing right&left drums is enough. No need to another set.

Not more than standart wheel. Again think about the tyre dimension and drum dimension as I wrote about to Cooch.

Yes, you are right that X-trail is a soft-roader. But a good softroader to its competitors and can go everywhere expect hard off-roading. That's why I don't want to mount a winch, change bumper etc. I prefered this set just for an emergency. I believe it will work on every situation where X-trailer may need.

I used Navara also 2 years ago. Now I use Mitsubishi L200 for hard bashing and off-roading at mud. Completely a different world, Navara can not be the compatitor of a L200. So if you go seriously hard off-road, I can recommend to you to pass a L200 with rear dif. lock.

To go long distances for travel off-course X-trail is more comfortable and better than L200&Navara. And I can go every where with it except where there is no road.
