Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

The bluetooth button may stop working when you replace the head unit simply because the +5V supply for ALL the steering wheel buttons comes from the factory audio unit. One of the projects I have to complete when I'm back home (14days 10hours until the flight leaves) is to restore correct operation of the buttons on Phillipa's X-Trail, although it's a while since they worked I have been told this item is one of many on The List...

Forgot to mention, I too am a poorly ST owner. The TI version comes with the GPS factory installed and I wouldn't be going through these set up woes. Don, the new ST model comes with blueteeth on the wheel.. :escher:

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hi guys,

I have to ask this...what is it with blue tooth on the steering wheel?
Isn't this just a wireless communicating protocal between to seperate Blue Tooth compatible units.

I'm waiting for delivery of a Kenwood DDX 6.1" head unit(No Navigation)
This has bluetooth capability inside and hopefully it will communicate with my HPh.

My Xtrail has steering wheel controls, but no Blue Tooth!

I did also buy a Metra steering Wheel conversion for Nissan "07 and up and a Antenna Converter as well.

Also on the way Rear View Camera (Boyo VTL375) very neat unit. The camera is built in a number plate frame and is adjustable for angle.

Speaker replacement with Focal Polyglass units VR165 including an Infinity Kappa Four Amplifier and Infinity Basslink subwoofer.

The Infinity Subwoofer is a powered unit and can be place anywhere in the boot.

The interior ripping apart should start in about 2 weeks time. I'm tired already.

Rgds....Andre

Hi Andre, what I was referring to was the bluetooth phone answer and end call button on the steering wheel.

Change of plan, I am now going to install the Kenwood DDX7034 with a GPS module attached. Will post photos of the install and reverse camera fitting as I progress. Next Tuesday is my only day off to do install.

Cheers Greg

Hi Greg,

That explains the Blue Tooth thingy on the steering wheel.

My stuff wont arrive untill end next week. So you're probably ahead of me fitting it.
It would be interesting to see how you route the Rear View Camera leads to the head unit.

Good luck with the fitting.

Rgds....Andre

Why not just go under the trim, seats and carpet to the boot...then out through the floor pan to the bumper?
Holes have to be drilled, but the wires are under 2mm.. so its not to bad.
Otherwise its clipping wires under the car

Re:

There is no need to drill any holes in the boot area of the exy, just remove the rubber grommet on the floor of the boot (under the spare tyre) and run the wires through that grommet to the rear bumper. That's how the towbar wiring is run to the main wiring loom at the back anyway, so if you do have a towbar, follow the same line.

Hi Dave,

My Rear View Camera is part of the Number Plate Frame and I need to feed the cables trough the top of the rear hatch.

Andre,

Feed the cables through the tailgate chrome garnish that sits above the number plate.

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

I'd like to install a "kitchen sink" into my X-trail (T30 II).

I've read through this topic but I haven't seen a post mentioning the unit sold by autogps

Also shown on the autogps.com.au website

Any images of the unit installed and feedback on functionality would be great.

Admin Edit: eBay links removed. Please refrain from posting eBay links on our forum which go dead after a while and become useless. Post photos of the product in question directly into your post.
