Re: Recall Catalytic Converter & O2 Sensor Breakage
Hi Dave,
Getting rid of the ceramic cat. converter is not an easy or cheap job, as the factory cat. converter is part of the manifold and in your case (2006 STS) you would have 2 of them.
I don't think it can be linked to the number of kms traveled as this recall happened to new xtrails at the time it was issued by Nissan. You can however start planning to do the exhaust upgrade when the factory warranty expires.

How long after an Official Recall can you claim on it?
My 2005 84k klm Xtrail I believe (checked by Nissan....but they didn't say it should be replaced) still has the original cat convert.
If Nissan checked your CAT and said it didn't need replacing, yours will be fine. However only a physical inspection of the internals of the CAT can confirm this.
quote: Now I'm getting Crank Angle Sensor errors 1500klm after a service. Dont know the exact code just know the error message. Car cut out for a second then resumed. Keeps happening now.
Cant afford $400 to get it fixed...still paying the $1000 off for the 80k klm service + Butterfly screw loctiting.
Any way to check the CAS. Any wiring to check?
The Crank Angle Sensor has nothing to do with this recall, all T30 models are suffering from the Crank Angle and Cam Sensor failures at the moment due to age and they can both be replaced by yourself. They come in a pack of 2 sensors when you buy them from Nissan. Please do a search on the Crank Angle and Cam Sensors and use the information in the existing threads (many of which have photos showing the replacement method).

Re: Recall Catalytic Converter & O2 Sensor Breakage
Wow Aron, 2 posts in 4 years being a member of our forum!!
First of all, am not sure how an excessive oil consumption can be linked to the O2 sensor and cat. converter breakage recall as they're not related at all.
You said that Nissan fixed your butterfly screws problem but you didn't say how they fixed it, have they replaced the engine and gave you a brand new one or have they paid for the repair and recondition of your existing engine?

Re:
Hopefully you will never have to find out if your cat. converter is buggered because it will be time to replace the engine if you do find out.
Signs of cat. converter breakage include loss of power and increased fuel consumption and the flakes from the cat converter will cause damage to the cylinder walls which can not be repaired, so it is indeed quite serious.
