Inquiry about recommendations for CVT Failure.

Hi everyone here.

It was a great excitement when I found this forum while looking for a solution for the problem I had with my X Trial.
I am the 2nd owner for X Trial 2015, got it 2 years back with 42000KM.
I did next survice at 52000 at Motors Nissan Burnie after about 16 months of purchase.
Last month before getting 60000KM, I got a noise from the engine.
I had been to Nissan/ motors service centre where I have been asked to come nex week to do some testing on behalf of Nissan. 2nd visit, I was asked to pay 300 & to get the car next week again to get it be checked again for another 460 AUD. I was told that next check had been asked by Nissan after they found CVT failure with need to change it. The planned recheck is required so Nissan can decide if this can been done as Good will or not.

I am not sure if this ok for a CVT to fail within 60000 of working only for a brand like Nissan. And, what other tests should be done with extra payment without guarantee of getting it changed on behalf of Nissan or not.

By the way, I have been told it will cost 10200 if Nissan regret change. I can not imagine paying 10000 for a car which worth 17000-18000 AUD in the market.

What you guys thinks & what is you advice for me. If someone who had same before let me know how he/she went with it, I will be thankful.

Regards,
Ahmed Hassan

Re: Inquiry about recommendations for CVT Failure.

I've recently had a similar problem with my T32.

At 98,000km I heard strange noises - booked into my local Nissan garage and they suspected CVT failure. Nissan Australia wanted all sorts of analysis and checks carried out which took two weeks. Nissan then agreed that it was a manufacturing fault and replaced the entire CVT with a brand new one - no charge!

The car was 4.5 years old, out of warranty, but had been serviced at the Nissan dealer for every required service which I think helped.

Good luck with your problem.

Re: Inquiry about recommendations for CVT Failure.

CVTs are bad news at the best of times, a combination of not quite polished design/engineering and load related failures seem most common.

If I had one I'd be changing the 'lifetime' fluid and the band regularly, as I would want it to last well past 60k too. But in the end all you can do is hope for the best.

Second hand ones are around, very much luck of the draw when you get one of course, so be sure to get a refund and/or replacement warranty noted on the invoice.

I'd more likely switch to manual as you don't want to be hit and miss. More costly to do but at least it would be more reliable afterwards.
