Intermittent P2263

Hey all. I know there's not a lot of us about these days but figured I'd ask anyway.
Currently my exxy has a p2263 issue. It's only showing as a pending code and sometimes it vanishes altogether. I just got back from a trip from Brisbane to Rockhampton and on the return journey the car went into limp mode in Brisbane itself. Turned the car off, drained my Provent and turned the car back on, only drained of because I realized I hadn't drained it since I left Brisbane some 1400kms prior. Limp was gone when I turned the car back in and I got home fine.

Now I'm trying to investigate the issue and would appreciate any advice. As an intermittent pending fault I'd prefer to fix it before it becomes a permanent actual fault.

I had a hard p2263 fault the last time I did this same trip and that turned out the pipe from the intercooler to the intake had a crack in it. New pipe in and the fault went away. Checked my MAP sensor and it looked a little oily, I cleaned it and put it back in.

I am noticing my soot levels in my DPF monitoring seem to be fluctuating up and down but 3-5g which is unusual and I can hear like a turbo flutter when I come off the throttle in lower gears. From some reading a it sounds like a solenoid maybe is responsible for this? Any advice on testing this?

Re: Intermittent P2263

Well the pending P2263 went away and hasn't come back so that's lucky. I think I had let the provent drain fill to much and had gunked some sensors with blowby as the MAP sensor looked oily when I pulled it.

I'm still hearing turbo flutter noises especially in first and second when I come off the throttle suddenly. Not sure if that's normal and I just never noticed because of my stereo or if it's new and something to be concerned about?

Re: Intermittent P2263

Hi Darryl,
I was just wondering if you had seen this fault return since last time?
I have had a similar problem. I have a 2009 Nissan X Trail TS and at first it would lose power randomly and go into limp mode but would then clear itself. It then came up hard and stayed. OBD showed a P2263 error code so Took it to Nissan who were hopeless. Told me I needed to replace the turbo as it had failed or new engine. Said no thanks and took it down the road. Was lacking diesel pressure and a new diesel filter fixed it for a few months. The mechanic couldn’t see anything else wrong, turbo making boost no problem.
Fast forward to now and it has come back but have no clue what is causing it. MAF sensor is fine. P2263 up and no power. No confidence in the local dealer and it has been to 2 other mechanics who have no idea what it is.
Anyway mate, if you did encounter your problem again it would be great to hear what you found.
Cheers
Alastair

Re: Intermittent P2263

Hi Alastair,

An internet search finds the following possible causes.
P2263 NISSAN Possible Causes
    Intake air leaks
    Exhaust gas leaks
    Faulty Turbocharger boost sensor
Faulty Turbocharger boost control solenoid valve
    Faulty Recirculation valve
Faulty Exhaust manifold and turbocharger assembly
    Faulty Boost control actuator

Since Darryl found a split in his intercooler inlet hose, then looking at all your flexible hoses between inlet and manifold would be a good place to start. Then check all clamp fittings are tight and that there are no exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors. Next I would suggest checking all sensor connectors.

Not being an actual diesel Xtrail owner, these would just be my logical check points to start with based on others experience with this fault.

Re: Intermittent P2263

Hi Kev,
Thanks heaps for your reply. I’ll get onto checking those things and come back with what I found.
The car is pretty much undriveable the way it is so I’ll do the simple things and get it into a mechanic this week if I can, possibly a different Nissan dealer than the one I took it to last time.
If anyone knows a good honest mechanic in Brisbane who knows diesel x trails please let me know.

Re: Intermittent P2263

Hi guys,
Not sure if anyone is out there but I had my Exxy in at the mechanic today and he found the Turbo Boost Solenoid to be faulty. The car is pulling like a freight train now so happy with that part. Just not sure why the diesel filter replacement fixed it for months last time. Hopefully I don't have 2 separate issues. Anyway always good to put resolutions to problems so that they can help others. Will post back if I have more issues.

Cheers

Re: Intermittent P2263

I had the same as Carney, intermittent fault for P2263 Turbo Performance. The car was down on power at all times though. I thought it was just in my head at first, but after fixing it definitely was down. Interestingly never saw an engine light, and the Limp mode (3000rpm restriction) was intermittent, but power always down a bit. And down massively when in limp mode.

Went through all the basics, vacuum pipes, intercooler houses etc, no boost or vacuum leaks. Was very suspect on the boost control solenoid, but testing resistance it was OK, right at 19 ohms. Pulled it apart, no cracks in the diaphragm, and no oil or anything inside. Then did a full EGR clean - it was extremely dirty, 230tKm car I just bought, reckon it may never have been done. Drove it after cleaning/checking everything... Felt better but not right.

Spoke to a mate at the local Nissan dealer, he suggested it was indeed likely to be the boost solenoid as well - and they had them in stock. Bit the bullet and replaced, instantly fixed. Could tell within 100m of driving.

Thanks for your experience and posts Carney.
