Re: T31 engine rattle/vibration sound
No I don't think the engine is "knackered".
The QR25DE uses a tensioner to keep the timing chain taught. This tensioner uses an internal spring for startup until oil pressure is sufficient to hold the tensioner.
As the engine gets older there is a risk that the spring in the tensioner might break or loose tension and as the timing chain gets older it might "stretch" through the links wearing and this stretch means the tensioner spring might not tension the timing chain as much as it should during startup until the oil pressure takes over.
As our engines age it is wise to use a heavier oil to maintain pressure, particularly 10W40.
If the rattle becomes prolonged after initial startup you might see to having the tensioner either replaced or cleaned to make sure the spring is still in working order.

Re:
+1 @revhead Kev, it is not knackered :-)
The video doesn't help to isolate where the noise is being generated. You should check under the car- often the exhaust will make noise (if corroded or damaged), and as it heats up the noise will change, begin, or go away like yours is.
If it is coming from the engine, use a stethoscope, a screwdriver, or just your own ears to find the location. That will help you to narrow down the possibilities much more accurately. Feel free to share more with us, we'll try to help where we can

Re: T31 engine rattle/vibration sound
Try something for me ...
Before you start the Xtrail, push and hold the accelerator to the floor as you try to start the engine. It should not start but just crank over. Then after your oil light goes out, stop cranking the engine, release the accelerator and try to start the engine normally.
I found this in an overseas forum where they also have occasional chain rattle on startup of their QR25DE engines and what it does is prime the timing chain tensioner with oil pressure instead of relying on the internal spring at startup.
If this cures your chain rattle on startup then you might consider having the tensioner serviced or replaced as the spring might be broken or gunked up and not extending enough.
