Maybe take it in and have a chat to them to see if it is repairable before having an autoelectrician just replace it with a new one which would be more expensive.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Fri, 03 Jul 2020 19:42:16 +0000 Re: Battery Charge Lighthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097595,from=rss#post2097595https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097595,from=rss#post2097595Hi Kev Thanks for your reply. I will get the alternator and drive belt checked out. I was contemplating cleaning both the output terminal connections of the alternator, as well as the field plug. It is the original alternator and the problem only started recently when the cold weather started. There is an auto electrician at the top of my street, and he mentioned that an alternator would cost around $450, if he could source one, or I could try a motor wreckers. He had never heard of this problem before. It sounds like either your alternator drive belt is slipping until the engine reaches temp or there is a bad connection in the wiring from the alternator which comes good when things warm up under the bonnet. Might also be a bad diode plate in the alternator with a faulty solder joint which comes good with some heat. My suggestion is to get an auto electrician to check out the alternator and wiring for breaks.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 08 Jun 2020 10:01:22 +0000 Re: Battery Charge Lighthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097506,from=rss#post2097506https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097506,from=rss#post2097506Hi Kev 13.8 volts via a digital voltmeter. I will try again later today with an analog voltmeter an see what difference there is. The light goes out as normal when restarting a warm engine. The battery is fully charged, the battery terminals are clean and tight and the car starts and runs normally. Is there some kind of temperature device in the alternator that could be affecting the charging? Battery terminal voltage is 13.8 volts, and rises to 14.5 volts when the alternator starts charging, Thanks for any suggestions Cheers Zambuknondisclosed_email@example.com (Zambuk)Sun, 07 Jun 2020 09:16:56 +0000
