sump removeal

good morning ,
I have an early t30 ... and 05 I think , qr25de, petrol , 2wd , auto trans. it burns oil like a diesel and has low mileage. I haven't done any meaningful diagnostics but general research suggests that this is the typical " bad rings" deal. I am a well qualified mechanic so rebuilding the motor would no big deal but I an really not looking forward to getting the motor out as the " book" suggests by dropping it out the bottom etc. I have seen a couple older posts here that suggest that the oil pan ( sump) can come off the car with the motor in the chassis. I haven't crawled under there yet to have a look but if that really the case ? the pan can come off this motor with the engine in the car? because if that's the case , having the head off and doing the rings becomes a real easy job... please tell me that's the case...

Re: sump removeal

If the engine is using oil to a large extent then it is worth checking your Cat converter for deterioration. They are known to have the ceramic start breaking up and the flakes get ingested into the engine where they act like sandpaper scouring the cylinder walls so you might also need to replace the Cat if this has happened.

Also check all the butterfly screws to make sure one has not come loose and dropped into a cylinder.
