Replace T31 cigarette lighter with USB socket Hello all. I was wondering whether anyone has had the experience of removing the cabin cigarette lighter to replace it with a USB socket? Size looks very similar, but is there a lot of dismantling involved in getting the lighter out?

Re: Replace T31 cigarette lighter with USB socket It would be much easier and simpler to purchase a cigarette lighter/USB adapter. Supercheap have one for about $5. Just google USB Car Chargers and you will find heaps on there.
I have a 2 USB ports adapter and they are not obtrusive.
However, it's obviously up to you if your requirements are such that you want to completely remove the existing lighter socket.
Cheers

Re: Replace T31 cigarette lighter with USB socket Thanks for your thoughts. I do have a plug in adapter, but like a number I've had over the years, it's unreliable. I find the phone not charging, and when I check I find the adapter needs a jiggle in the lighter socket to regain contact. In a previous vehicle I fitted a wired in socket which fixed the problem, but I don't want to hack into the plastic on the Exy. I hoped someone may have had the experience of unclippng the console mouldings. If that is difficult I'll look again at plug in adapters.

Re: YOu can get USB sockets that replace the blanks for the rocker style switches/blanks that are on the console in a few locations, have seen heaps on ebay. This way you also retain the cig socket incase you every need it to power something non usb.

Re: Re: I hadn't thought of that, thanks a lot. The lighter has the advantage of wiring being already in place, but I wonder whether the original loom supplies any wiring to these blanks for future use. Would be a great solution if it works! I'm going to search Ebay now.
