Re: Re:
I hadn't thought of that, thanks a lot. The lighter has the advantage of wiring being already in place, but I wonder whether the original loom supplies any wiring to these blanks for future use. Would be a great solution if it works! I'm going to search Ebay now.
Edit: This is a two year old edit, but I did buy lighter/USB adapter on Ebay and It's a great result. No wiring changes; simply clip the console apart and swap the wires from cig. lighter to the new device.
Edit: I now have some photos showing how I dismantled.
To remove the shifter, you need to drop down the plastic ring below the shifter.
I found it easy to insert a knife blade as shown, then tap the blade down with a hammer.
That exposes the shifter retaining clip which clips into two slots on the shifter shaft.
A small flat screwdriver under the front of the clip will be enough to slide the clip forward, releasing the shifter knob, which just lifts off.
A plastic pry bar or similar under the edge of the console will click it off.
Lift the console, remove cig lighter and replace it with the charging socket. The two wires transfer directly from the lighter to the charger.
