T31 petrol feels sluggish, noisy under load.

Our X-Trail feels / sounds like it's straining when under medium - heavy acceleration. For example joining the motorway or going uphill. The rev's don't go nuts on the gauge, but it feels underpowered and has a nasty whining note, it's almost like it's doing more revs than the gauge reads, although I'd say it doesn't sound like the engine is being thrashed.

Any ideas please?

Re: T31 petrol feels sluggish, noisy under load.

From your intro I can see you have an Auto, so for the petrol that should mean a CVT.
These transmissions act totally different to previous auto transmissions and will sound like the engine is revving higher than speed seems to dictate but you will notice the acceleration is there. The CVT uses the optimum revs of the engine and changes the "variable" gearing as speed changes rather than having the engine revs change with speed in most cases.

Hi Kev, sorry for the delay in replying.

Yes, it's a CVT box. No, I dont believe its a perception thing. Even my wife - who'd struggle to change a light bulb - says it sounds & feels wrong. emoticon
I see another new member here has a similar question with their 2012 model.
To be honest, I think its time to let the local Nissan dealer take a look, as I'm afraid I dont have complete confidence in our usual mechanic. He's good, but he's not a Nissan specialist.

Re:

Did you change the CVT oil?
I change in my t31 this days and now get much better response from the motor.
Appear that new oil transmit better the engine power to the cvt box.

Re: T31 petrol feels sluggish, noisy under load.

hello, i came across the same feels actually, when i first acquire the T31, feel a bit sluggish on the first gear but it's all good throughout the whole range of gears right after. so i did a CVT full service, from the filter and all, put in a fresh oil, spark plugs changed, and gave it a good clean on MAF & Throttle Body.
lastly, i installed the Throttle Responder, even prior of this particular add on device, i can feel it has improve a lot.
